video card help

well i talked to alot of people here about a new card for my dell and the info i got is that i need an agp card not a pci one i looked at at some of them and they say agp but then they also say pci so i'm lost (help me find a good card for my system thanks)

dell pentium 3.ghz
512ram upgrading to 2 gig
and i right now i have a nvidia 5200fx booooooooo

Should be no problem to pick up an agp card that will be better than the 5200. What does your budget look like ?

remember to get at least an 6600gt...theyre pretty cheap and powerful

and i think ppl can use both PCI and agp beacuse they have both of those slots..but agp is alot faster..stay away from pci

the other card that ppl say u cant get is a pci-express which is about teh same as an agp but can handle newer cards..and if u want this slot ull need to upgrade like..evrything

ah, ok well i went to buy.com and searched for agp card they have cheap cards on there compare to most stores and i searched for agp cards and here is what came up i guess budget i would like to spend around $150 on the card.

Have you made sure you actually have an AGP slot? A lot of Dells dont have them.

Oh, and a 6800 is better than an X1600. A X800 is also better.

Maybe. You'd need over 1GB of RAM I'd say.

Yeah maybe. If you've already bought that card too late, but you would have been better of buying a cheap motherboard with an AGP slot and getting an AGP card. Might have cost you $40 more or so, but it would have been 3 times better.

Upgrading my mobo and a new card is not a viable solution at the moment.

And I have yet to buy the card, I have to wait until my PS2 gets sold on Ebay :)

Then don't get the card. Its 3 times the price of what you'd pay for an AGP equivalent, and really its just not worth it. If you had a friend that knows what to do, get them to help, the whole operation could be done in less than an hour.

Anyway, I heard there was a patch or something that allows PCI players to play or something like that...

Could I use this "patch" on the demo?

Nah its nothing to do with patching. PCI interface just doesn't have the data speeds for good graphics, so any of the PCI graphics cards you can get are mostly low end and not really good for gaming of any sort. A patch isn't going to make a bad card good unfortunately.
