    Video Problem

[fyi -- I meant to post this in the Tech forum and just tried to edit but it won't let me...sorry. I presume the Admin can switch it.]

I have searched here, on EA troubleshooting, and the EA forums and haven't found an answer to my problem so I'm finally posting.

I have sound but no video. I haven't played the game for about two months and this problem has been going on for about a month with both v1.3 and v1.4. I do not know what I did before the problem started.

The game starts and the sound is on and I even have the cursor. When I click ALT-CTRL-DELETE I can see the screen for an instant and then it goes to black and I can't get it back.

I have ATI Radeaon 9550 and have the most current drivers and Direct 9.x.

    Any clues?

      Yes, I do.

The game has worked fine until a couple of months ago. I bought the game the first month it was released.

        Re: Video Problem

And it stopped working with the advent of 1.3?
Have you tried a reinstall. I mean since you are not getting it to display at all, it sounds like a video card issue. You have all the updated drivers for the card. Maybe try and revert back to the last oldest drivers and see if that works.

Maybe the newer patches somehow made older cards not work anymore(mere speculation). Does the card still work on other games, maybe its starting to crap out?

I had an ATI card with some problems -- not like your having, but you might want to rollback your catalyst to a older version, or update to a new version. 6.5 worked for me.

            Re: Video Problem

            First, thanks for the help.

Before I proceed, I ran the DirectDraw tests in DXDIAG and got these results:

DirectDraw test results: Failure at step 7 (User verification of fullscreen bouncing): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)

I don't know why my other games (Call to Duty 2, Half-Life 2, San Andreas) work if I'm getting these results. The answer may be to roll back but for ATI it doesn't seem like it's so simple. Their entire Catalyst system is the most user-unfriendly software I've used in a long while.

Does this look familiar and point to a more obvious solution?

              Re: Video Problem

Not sure about this, it's probably not the graphic card itself considering it works for other games, however, I reccomend I clean install and repatch of both Battlefield 2 and your graphic card drivers (Latest ones of course) and see how you go.

Oh and for future refrence make sure you put this in the Bf2:Support forum
