Enabling 8x AA and 16x AF

    First off, my specs.

    P4 Prescott 3.00 GHz CPU
    2 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533 MHz (PC 4300) (1GB Kingston - 2 x 512 - 1 GB Samsung - 2 x 512)
Evga GeForce 7900 GT clocked at 650/1720 w/ Zalman VF700Cu
Antec Neo HE 500 Watt PSU

I'm able to enjoy BF2 with maxed out settings, although there are just a few graphical niggles that bother me.

I run at 4x AA from the in-game graphics menu, but I still notice a few stair steps. I also have the Texure Filtering option set to High, but I find the AF in-game to be very low. How do I set it so the options in the nVidia control panel (8x AA and 16x AF) overtake the ingame settings? Should I set Texture filtering to Low in the in-game options menu, and to 16x AF in the nVidia control panel? Should I set AA to 0 in the in-game menu and 8x in the nVidia control panel? How have others gotten the nVidia control panel to work?

Im not an expert but what I did was change my settings and go into an empty server and see how it looked. You might also try a test running in LAN mode too. The reason you want to do this is so you dont get killed while you are working on your computer and not paying attention to the game.

I turned it off or set it to hardware controlled, with the controls avaiable at the server selection screen, Im at work and cant look and see. Anyway I then used the controls in the Invida control panel, I have a 7800 card, to change the settings. It really helped a lot. Untill a real expert gives you a better answer, you can try this. Its the way I currently run video in game now. Good Luck. . . . . .Red

    * You can also try the instructions at Tweakguides.com They have instructions for cool bits too

1204 by 1280. Max my monitor supports.

The AA is negligible, as I really only notice small jagged edges from quite a ways away. I'd like to see how my 7900 can handle it, and how much it improves the IQ or decreases the performance, though.

The AF though is balringly bad. The textures on roads get pretty blurry after a few feet.

sorry, not trying to pick on you
but this is a good example of ALL Maxed out that it is NOT maxed out

there is a HUGE difference in GPU load witrh 1280x1024 vs 1600x1200 or even higher

            anyway -
            AA cannot remove ALL jaggies
pus there are 2 types - spatial and temporal

for the blury part - can you provide an screen shot?

These guys are right about the Gforce drivers. The newest driver is not always the best driver. Youll have to check and see what other players use and try those out. On the good side though almost all the nvida drivers will run your video card so theres little danger here, youll just have to spend some time testing them. By the way I believe the driver that works best on my 7800 GT OC is 89 something. Just check with some other 7900 users that should give you a good place to start. . . . . . . . .Red

Red try the newest drivers from invidia. I got a few frames out of them and the new control panel is kind of neat.

Is it even possible to run the settings he is proposing? If so, I'd like to give it a whirl as well. I run at 1280x1024 with every setting on the highest value selectable in game (with the exception of sound which is only at "high" b/c I don't have a fatality audio card or whatever you need to use "ultra").

I think I've got it to work.

Set everything to High and the Video menu, except leave AA to None. Then, just open up the nVidia control panel, and set the AA to 8x and the AF to 16x, and it should work.

                      I also eneabled Supersampling.

Okay, I got the AA and AF to work, but when I play back a demo in Battlerecorder, or just press the Print Screen button at any time. I lose all of those settings.

                            Ugh..

did you force all those options through the control panel? AA and AF forced through the control panel should stick, no matter what you press or set in-game. The nividia control panel should override whatever the game wants to do.
