Good god, EA, I am so disappointed.
This coming from someone who defends you on this forum. IN fact, did it earlier today! Not anymore. I have had almost zero issues since reinstalling when 1.4 came out.
I bought Specal Forces today. Drove home from work, all excited...
Installed.
As it installed I saw 'checkng to see Ver 1.1 compatible' or something like that.
I'm thinking 'no no!! don't you patch my game!!!'
Two weeeks ago I reinstalled Windows, BF2, 1.4. Deleted the patch when done. Keeping my hard drive clean. My mistake there.
Then it said 'patching...'
Well. That shouldn't mean anything. I mean, come on. EA wouldn't let an older patch install on a newer version. Right?
Start the game and I get the shaders error = lighting.fx blablabla.
*sigh....
Google search. Leads me ... here. lol
"Copy this here and that there."
I did.
Ran it agin. It loads up! Sweet!
Now... I am already ticked that the game wouldn't install seamlessly as is. I mean, come on! You can't write code designed for YOUR expansion pack that SEAMLESSLY integrates into YOUR product? That's just kind of... well... sorry.
Start server browser. Populates. Sweet!
Double-click to join a server....

What?!? Are you f******ing kidding me?!?? Are you telling me SF brought my BF2 DOWN to version 1.1?!?!?
Now I'm downloading 1.4 AGAIN! Yea, my bad for not keeping it but COME ON EA! Unacceptable!!!!
Got home at 5:30 and two hours later I am still not playing...
(And no, EA, I am not buying 2142. Could you stop advertising it to me at every login? Thanks...)

Forgot to mention. As I was installing SF it asked if I wanted to be an EA insider, or whatever. OK, why not. I almost signed up once to reserve my name, but cancelled before sealing the deal.
First, I'll try what I normally use.
Create new. Use 7eregrine and pass.
*THIS USER ALREADY EXISTS!*
Oh. Ok. Maybe my earlier attempt did take. I click LOG IN.
