I stopped playing BF2 the week it was released. I was asked to
write a review for the game. After hours of disgust trying to even
get the game to install (patch problems....) on our gaming rigs I gave
this review to another and washed my hands of it. Recently I tried to
get into the game again, having being asked to write another column on
the top FPS games. Since SF, EURO, AF + several patches had been out
since my first attempt I figured it would be a whole new ballgame, well
I was wrong. Same bugs, Same instability, Same return-for-refund rate
      at local retailers, yes.

Its a shame too, because the game could actually have been great, however
EA is widely known as the absolute WORST publisher, supporter in the entire
      market.

My point is, as the original thread starter suggests, could be, EA will
eventually drop this title like they do so many others. Without REAL notice,
without REAL consideration to its paying customers who have played their
arses off to obtain ranks and weps. They will merely with one broad stroke
ruin all of what BF2 had offered them, meant to them. EA does this in
all their titles. They do it so you'll buy their next junk product.

Welp Ive been playin BF2 since January and havent run into many problems. Despite the crashes, server crashes and bugs, Ive have and continue to enjoy this game. I maybe have crashed to desk top 3 or 4 times and have only seen the servers crash maybe twice. I guess I am lucky but as for bugs there are bugs in just about any game you buy.

True, but wasn't it the marketing director of EA who said that people will stop buying from a company if all their products are total crap?

EA can't own EVERYTHING. It's an impossibility, and would eventually lead to the companies infrastructure collapsing.

Monopoly might be a game, but a monopoly is what EA will never be.

I don't know what kind of gaming rigs you run, but I've had very few problems on my machine and it's definitley not high end. Sure, I had a few more problems after 1.3 like everybody, but the game was still more than playable. Since 1.4, I've had ZERO problems.

For someone that speaks with such authority, I have to wonder why you were never able to fix the problems you encountered.

In preparation for the earlier than expected release of BF2142″. Despite the public betas and extensive, and indeed very costly testing by DICE and partners, solutions to the outstanding and most notorious issues of BF2 post 1.3 have remained elusive.

Support for the game has dropped by nearly 50% since the release of patch 1.3 and ranked server rental by over 70%. With this in mind it is no longer feasible for EA to continue to support a game that has seemingly terminal problems the pursuit of solutions for which have run into a prohibitive area of cost.

EA gave a first sign of the imminent demise of bf2 by permanently closing all UK multiplay servers backed by its UK offices earlier this week, and by sending instructions to ranked server providers to wind down the service. If BF2 end users will be disappointed by the lack of server support, the imminent end of EA’s contract for player database storage with Gamespy may well raise tempers. EA’s agreement with Gamespy ends on October 1, and as EA will use their own EA membership service to log player records for BF2142, the BF2 gamespy service will terminate on this date, meaning all current BF2 ranked players will lose all playing records.

The final BF2 patch release will be a new 1.4b patch, which will remove the log in screen function but as a small bonus will allow all bf2 players to have all unlock weapons ingame, hardly much reward for the hard work put in by the legions of let down bf2 fans.

Somebody at EA has some hard work to do over the next few days, and the success of BF2142 looks even more critical than ever for the PC gaming crowd.

If anyone has any information on this please leave a comment so we can all keep upto date on this.

              Can anyone verify this????
Oh man this would be great if it were true. Just revert the things they screwed up and admit their mistakes! vehicle drop... squad hoping... and allow global unlocks so mods can use them!!!

Cant wait to see the look on their faces when 2142 flops.

This is probably like the 10th repost of this NOT TRUE rumor. I think it's also funny that most of the thread titles for this story have all been along the same lines, I'll have to do a search and dig them up.

This is a totaly unfounded rumor that has been refuted on the EA UK forums by the guys there who are paid EA employees.

Game runs fine for me. IN fact, I just bought Special FORCES.
