Zone Alarm

I got Battlefield 2 yesterday, installed with the latest patch.

Problem is the game is very chopy, and unplayable. So I shut down Zone Alarm and the game runs better, but still a bit chopy but playable.

Instead of having to shut down Zone Alarm every time I play Battlefield 2, is there any tweaks I can do in Zone Alarm to allow the game to run without any problems? I have put the game up to trusted and allowed. Is there any other files that should be trusted and allowed?

My PC can run Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source, Half-Life 2 all on max settings and they run like a dream.

What is you ping time? If it's above 200, then it may have something to do with ZonAlarm. But if it's below that, you problem may not be your internet connection, but rather the PC itself.

I'm not all that familier with how much resources ZoneAlarm takes, but I noticed you've only got a GB of RAM. I'm running 2.5 GB and I experince some choppyness (sp) ocasionally. (It could also be the video card)

Try and pin-point whether it really is ZoneAlarm first. Since you're able to play CS and HL2 with it turned on, I'm tihnking it's not ZoneAlarm.

Let us know if you find a solution. Someone else may have a similar problem.

Zone Alarm when you first install it blocks everything going, so you need to allow things to run, sometimes it doesn't even tell you if its trying to execute. So manually do it yourself by checking what is allowed to initiate on your computer and what isn't. I've not used Zone Alarm in a long time so I can't really remember it all but just checked in the allow list and manually add something if its not there.

Your ping could be anything, could be your ISP. If it continues for more then a day, remove Zone alarm and install kerio or some other simple firewall, or leave the firewall off temp, stick on Windows if your warey about security.

You never mentioned anything about ping, so check your graphics settings, your graphics card is? update graphics card (nvidia.com/ati.com).
