Real Low Fps- Plz Help

Ok so Im usually running on lower graphics setting on a:

Radeon x600SE
Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz
1GB DDRII ram
320GB HDD

and I decided Ive had enough of crappy graphics and FPS, so I went on the internet and got a X1900 GT with HiS cooling.

I try it out on CSS first and Im getting about 50-60 FPS (30 when lots is happening) with all high settings and 1152x864 res.

I try BF2 next, put it all on high settings (AA off, Light and shadow dynamics off) but I stick with 1024x768 res (60Hz).

I join wake (64plyer, pings fine btw, 30 usually) and spawn at an empty spawn point, no action going on really. 40-60FPS

I take a car to an area with some action, I start to drop to 30FPS then 20!!! and less and less when more stuff happens (arty for example).

I tried it out for a while longer but I mostly seem to drop all the way down too 20 or less FPS in these combat areas.

Surely my set up can handel something like this????

For high settings you need 2GB RAM (or at least make it 1,5GB). You could have two top-of-the-line video cards in your PC, but with 1GB RAM your fps would still drop, due to lack of RAM.

Your positive that this is my problem?
Just I dont want to end up with lag after spending another £80.

Any one else have any opinons?

How do I find out the power supply info?

I have the info for what the card needs.

Open up your case and look at the side of the psu. Their should be a label with some info on it.

Ah yeh, it says in the instructions I need 400watts, the DC outputs only 300.

Card info says I need 25Amps and i cant tell what the ampage it gives out?

Read this section of the forums for a bit, check some tweak guides and you will see that 1GB is not enough for BF2. Even if you sort out your PSU problem (which might not actually have an impact; you would probably get a notification if it was receiving not enough power; still it's not safe to have a 300W with such GPU), you will experience choppiness, until yu get more RAM.

Over time, you'll fry the card. (and possibly take many other components down with it)

Ok thanks all,

Just one last question, I have another power supply (450w) with a 20 pin connector on it.

Can I still put this in my 24pin socket in the motherboard or will it do somthing wierd?

I'm afraid to say this, but even if you upgrade your PSU (which you really should), you're going to get crappy performance anyways, even with another gig of ram.

This game used to get 60+ frames per seconds with my year old system and now on my new system it gets 30-40. The patches, somehow, have degraded the performance of the game. Just don't get BF2142, thats all you can do to fix the problem.

im going have to agree with this, BF2 used to run sweet with everything on high before patch 1.4 now its lagging all over the place, i have 2 gig ram 3.4ghz processor and an 6800gs 512mb card
