Try to play on maps with closer flags and which take less to travel in-between. And go for snipers or try to surround people. Be as stealthy as you can. Hide around flags and attack stationary people who attempt to cap it not paying attention to the surroundings. Kill and then go back in hide mode. If you have your basic knife badge, all you need is to get more kills until you reach 50. If not, you need 7 kills in the same round, and then go for 50 (not necessarily in a round).
Oh, the first thing you should do is to set your middle mouse button to knife, so you can run around using your rifle and have the knife ready in a second, when the moment comes. This is the best advice I have for you, that doesn’t hurt your knife stats. I took it long ago and served me right. Even now I still have my knife ready at any moment. It’s the best close combat weapon of all. One hit kills (that is, if you have low ping).

I think I noticed on bf2player.com (when you hover over a badge it tells you the requirements) that if you get the basic (7 knife kills in a round) it really is a matter of the total number of knife kills for Vet and Expert. If I am wrong my bad. 7 in a round was hard enough...the pistol expert will be the hardest for me.
