Can't play single player game

This is the first time I've experienced this. But when my cable was down earlier today. I was bored and I thought I give the single player mode a try. But then it wouldn't even get past the EA Games logo. So my question is do you have to be on the internet to even play the single player offline mode? Is there any solution to this?

No you should be able to play singleplayer fine. What does it do when you start it up. Go to a black screen and go back to desktop?

Yes mrpoptart01... it just goes to a blackscreen, and I usely have to open the task manager to close bf2

amd 64 3500, radeon x800 pro, 2gigs of ram
