Hello,

I have found out why MY BF2 was not running and Crashing To Desktop or CTD for short.

ANSWER = DVD/RW DRIVE! OF ALL THINGS

My OLD drive was a NEC 2500A +/- 8x DVD/CD Writer drive. Updating Firmware did NOT resolve any issues.

I USED A BRAND NEW LITEON DVD +/- DUAL LAYER "OEM" (DRIVE ONLY) UNIT COSTING 20 QUID! Reason must of been that the DVD was not being Authorised by my 3 year old DVD drive Hense the CTD!

BF2 NOW LOADS 99% FIRST TIME Either from DVD or Icons on Desktop!

SO ALL NEC DVD USERS BE AWARE. ALSO PACKARD BELL USE NEC DRIVES (SAME SUB COMPANY)


Thought i would tell you guys as i would hope everyone will post their usses and help ppl out?

Personally, I recommend virtual drive mounted images to avoid these types of issues..

Graphics cards can also lead to CTDs. So their is no real answer to people's problem unless they tell their specs.

100% agree :) my virual drive with my sf disk works everytime and i have never ctd.

Yes i know many issues can represent a CTD but if someone has been hunting high and low for a solution this may just help, it helped me so...

100% agree :) my virual drive with my sf disk works everytime and i have never ctd.

I use virtual images as well and used to get many CTD in 1.3

Now with 1.4 I've only had one or two.

Having your sound acceleration on Hardware and not software.

thanks for the info, just me being ultra pedantic here, if i understand your point correctly, you say NEC is affiliated with Packard Bell. this is not the case, Packard Bell (affectionately known in the trade as 'Packard Hell') is a brand name of DSG, ie, dixons and/or PC world here in the UK and is not affiliated with the good name of NEC whatsoever.
