My brand new copy refuses to patch to "anything".

So, I bought BF2 today, and was looking forward to playing.. But it seems to refuse to patch.
To any version. Ever.
Any ideas folks? I wanna play..

No retail copy is patched to version v1.4 ...

3 questions:

-what is the version number displayed on the main BF2 menu?
-what is the file name of the patch you're trying to use?
-are you logged into Windows XP using an admin account?
