Punkbuster GUID ban after a reinstall

Ok guys, I'm really starting to freak out here.

I decided to reinstall the game in order to do the full 1.4 update instead of the incremental to see if this would help some of the problems I've been having.

I did the manual uninstall of BF2 and SF per the link.

Then sucessfully installed in this order-
    BF2 - reboot
    SF - reboot
    1.4 full update - reboot

loaded the game and realized that my conrols weren't the same so exited the game and copied my original "profiles" folder over the existing one in MyDocuments. Started the game and saw my controls are there, then joined a server. Now I get the following screen:

a quick search shows this warning to be for a banned Key.

This is the same key I have been using all along and there is no reason for PB to think it is banned.

Where did I go wrong? Copying the profiles folder?

    Please Help!

you need to submit a support ticket to evenbalance. they are the only ones that can remove a global ban.

Not insulting or insinuating anything here, but have you used any kind of hack that attempts to circumvent PB at any point?

If you have, this is probably just a coincidence that you got GUID banned at the same time you reinstalled.

If you haven't used a hack, and I assume you haven't, then do what signa said.

Did you buy a key off eBay? Could your key somehow have been used/stolen by someone else?

Try searching for your name here and see if anything pops up. If any names don't look familiar, but pop up, someone was using your key and got it banned.

I wil try that search. I just select GUID and put my player name in?

I seriously doubt that someone else used the key because it worked fine just before I did the reinstall and I've been using the same one for about four months now without any PB issues.

and no, I've never used any cheats at all. I understand asking the question though. I mean I had some mods installed: POE2, BF2SP64, and FFOLKES unlocks, but never any kind of cheats. It has to be something with when I did the reinstall. I just don't know what.

Oh, another thing I just remembered.

                  This might a done it.

When I installed BF2, it looked like it installed, then it got to the selection to install DirectX. I said no and it closed the install completely. Then I tried to start the game and it wouldn't start. I looked in the EA folder and there BF2 folder wasn't there at all. So I thought well, it didn't really install. I installed again and it wen't perfect that time. Would that have something to do with it since I put the key in twice kind of?

I can't believe this. What are the chances PB will take the ban off?

                  EDIT:

Did you play BF2 previously with a different key prior to the last 4 months?

Did you do a complete uninstall?

Meaning add/remove through control panel, delete program files, delete Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents, deleted all remaining registry keys?

After reinstallation with the full patch did you manually update PB?

No, this is the only Key I have ever had. I got into BF2 about four months ago.

I did the uninstall exactly word for word from this link

Nope didn't manually update PB. I thought I would if I ran into PB errors -which I just did manually update it now But I sure doubt not doiong it before playing it first time would ban my key.

Can somone please tell me their experiences with PB as far as if they got their keys reinstated after a proven installation problem? I don't want to have to get a new key when I know this one is good and it is only from an istall problem. Thanks!

Damn that sucks... Post on PB forums until they do something or ban you, because if you weren't hacking, that is some lame sh*t. One of the reasons why some people hate PB.

Re: Punkbuster GUID ban after a reinstall

Maybe there's something wrong with the way your key is stored in registry. For quite some time, the key was stored in unencrypted form, leading to lots of complaints when wannabe cheaters got their keys stolen when installing "cheats". In one of the later patches (1.1 or 1.2?) the storage method was changed, and the key is now encrypted. Maybe the patching didn't convert your key correctly...

Try to re-enter your BF2 key again:
                          - run Battlefield2_code.exe in your battlefield2\support folder and reenter the key
                          - run full patch 1.4 again just to convert the key to encoded format
                          - try playing

Has anyone else had access to your computer? My kids all use this computer and this key when they play BF2. Is it possible that someone else used a hack while using your computer. Is it possible you installed any program that had a keylogger in it, or a trojan? I would check those things out before hand. I have heard of PunkBuster checking with PunksBusted (PunksBusted.com)and PunkBusterBans (PBBans.com) to see if a Key is on their Master Ban list (and what evidence they have) before releasing a banned key. I don't know if it is true or not, but I have heard that it happens.
