1.4 related problem?

I've been away from BF2 for a few months, and have returned to find a new patch and (predictably) a whole bunch of new problems.

My main prob is with what I can only describe as extreme 'lag' in the movement controls. Every movement lags a few seconds behind the controls, and sometimes bears no relation at all to my input. This happens in both single and multiplayer games, and makes th egame totally unplayable.

I've gone through the routine of a full uninstall/reinstall, and a full 1.4 patch, but with no joy.

Can anybody help? My apologies if this is covered elswhere - I searched but couldn't find much on it.

Sounds generic, anything could be causing that imo. Try the following:

Defrag harddrive (diskeeper is a good program for this instead of Windows).
Scan for Viruses (any AV with an updated database)
Scan for Spyware (Spybot search and destroy / Hijack this)
Scan for Adware (Adaware www.lavasoft.com)
Disk cleanup for your Harddrive

Seeing its happening in singleplayer that takes away any network issue. Try also deleting your logo cache. Make sure you have no programs running in the background, just for testing purposes turn off MSN or Xfire or any programs, even Anti-Virus.

Also check your settings in BF2 for graphics and check you have enough memory free to run BF2. If too much bandwith is being used it will lag BF2. Check that your graphics drivers are up to date (www.nvidia.com / www.ati.com).

Try all of that and then report back.
