Mouse keyboard lock once a map has loaded

Wierd problem. I upgraded to 1.4 and it worked for a few maps. Then the keyboard and mouse do not respond on the BF2 screen (where you choose weapons). The game continues to run (you can frustratingly hear * see people getting killed and bombs flying) but I can not input anything.

Alt+Tab brings back windows and everything is fine. Alt+Tab back to BF2 and the mouse and keyboard are still dead.

I have done the following to no avail:

Copy 1.3 back to the directory (I did a backup like a good boy)
Re-install from scratch (but leaving user settings).

    pdate ATI graphics drivers.

Next step is to blat BF2 off the system errasing registery entries and stuff. Then reinstall BF2.

If that does not work it is re-install windoes (overwriting).

And finally reformat and re-install windows from scratch (ARRRRR!).

Anyone got any more options, as this does not appear to have happened before after googling and searching the forum.

No luck yet. Have cleaned BF2 off the PC (uninstall: searching for Battlefield and deleing everything, running regcleaner to clean the registery, and going to re-install tonight).

I'll let you know, but I am expecting to have to reinstall windows BF2 is as unstable as a **********.

Worst case, try installing/downloading the full 1.4 patch from a different location, I've always downloaded/saved mine from the link from EA's main site.

Well I got mine working. I just uninstalled the whole game, reinstalled and ran the full 1.4 patch. It may be something with the incremental if you have that. Well I am happy mine is working. My friend told me to try another game, and I told him I didnt have another game, this is the only one I play. Guess I need to broaden my horizons, huh??

          To delete the save files:

          Open My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):

          Open My Computer.
          Open the C drive.
          Open the Program Files folder.
          Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
          Close all open windows.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

          Click on the Start button.
          Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click and choose Delete on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}.
          Close the Registry Editor

There is a manual uninstall for anyone that may have problems with uninstalling bf2.

usually that happens when your control.con files gets pooched after a crash. Make sure that the size of the control.con doesn't say something like 0kb. If it does copy the one out of the default profile into your user profile. You'll have to re-do your bindings but it's better then uninstalling\re-installing
