The NOOB thread.

i am really new. i have questions, many many questions and the manual is of little help.

i tried searching the forum for answers, i found hits on the search words, but all unrelated, i even tried searching for "noob" and noob question, no luck.
i also tried asking people i play with online, everyone ignored me. :cry:

so i figure ill post them here, and if someone is feeling nice today they will answer them. maybe it will be a good thing, a thread for REAL noobs. and if im breaking a forum rule im sure the admin will delete this thread, if not maybe someone should bookmark it for the next noob that comes along and has the same questions.

1.how do i earn points?

i played earlier today, some as medic and indeed i earned about 20-30 points. then a while later i played for a few hours, capturing many flags and killing many a foe, logged out, logged back in later, no point progress in the BFHQ.

what up wit that?


2.how do i deploy the parachute?
im tired of being the only one left in the chopper after everyone else bailed and left me to the freindly skies and unfriendly fighter pilots.


3.on the left hand side of the filter in the multiplayer screen there are these following options (i have them unchecked):[EDIT] "Ranked", and "battle recorder" (?) or something similar, right under it.

what are those for? did my points not register because i played on a server that didnt record my in game progress or something?


4.how do i deal with claymore mines? can i blow them up with handgrenades or rockets or something? all i can do now is to walk on them, die, come back and kill the sniper who deployed it.


5.i remember a mod for halflife back in the days, im pretty sure it was called battlefield also. you could choose (buy with points) your armour and weapons and there were tons of stuff to choose from. dose it have anything to do with the battlefield series? like maybe some of the designers went on to create the BF series?


i have more questions, but these are the ones i can remember right now.
any help would be much appreciated, and yes i know you guys probably have been asked these things before, but what can i do? couldnt find those threads, sorry.

1.ok, but then how come sometimes when i do kill enemies my score dosent go up?

3.actuall i was wrong, they are in the top left hand corner of the (server) filter window in the multiplayer section, it says "ranked" and "battle recorder". what are those 2 options for, was the question.

6. new question, if my team loses all spawn points, then where am i supposed to spawn? im dead but i still get the "choose your spawn point" window all the time.. help please.

1. i dont know, maybe you didnt get the kill or something

2. yes the key number 9, or you can go to the options menu and change it to another key.

3. you have to play on ranked servers to earn points, if that is unticked then it will bring up ranked and unranked servers, with it ticked then you only will see ranked servers. battlerecorder isnt important the you unless you plan on making battlefield movies or watching replay, which isnt that great anyways so dont worry about it.

4. supposedly the engineers can use their wrenchs to disable claymores?? thats what i heard but i havent tried so dont quote me on that.

5. it has nothin to do with bf2, you cant change your armor or anything like that.

6. if you dont have any spawn points you cant spawn, you have to either wait for the next round or until your team gets a flag back. and you cant spawn on your squadleader if your team doesnt have any flags./

If your entire team is dead and there is no-where to spawn, your team loses. If there is no-where to spawn but some members of your team are still alive, you'll just have to wait for them to capture a flag!

for number 1 you were probably playing on an unranked server so your global score didnt go up. You need to be on a ranked one.

A word of warning though, on ranked servers the quality of play is alot lower than on unranked as no one cares to use teamwork and everyone does nothing but statpad(doing things over and over and over again just to earn points/and generaly being a jackass whilst doing it)

I'm actually a noob myself- I'm only a sergeant. However, I think I can help (or at least elaborate on what other people said.

1. You earn points by
a. killing people,
b. dying less and not having to be revived as much,(actually, this just prevents you from losing points)
c. being commander gives you a nice juicy point bonus,
d. supplying allies with ammo and health packs, and reviving allies,
e. capturing CPs,
f. destroying commander assets likes the artillery,
g. not team killing (see b.)
h. being a good squad member, leader, ect.

2. as said before, tap 9

3. those are all choices on what types of game you want to play. For example, checking the 'not full' option will ensure that you won't even get the option to chose a game that is full, as those games will not be displayed. If the 'battlerecorder option is checked, after the battle, go the the 'community' tab in the main menu. There, you can watch the battle from a 3rd person, sort of free-look view, and you can see everything. most of the videos in the media section of this site are made using battle recorder. Also, you should always try and play ranked games, as they allow you to get awards, and are also better protected against cheaters, idiots, ect.

or... for Number 1... maybe the server didn't update yet. Sometimes it takes hours, or days, to update. just give it some time.

another tip for the last question, if you are dead and can't spawn anywhere click the X in the top right corner to close the spawn screen. Then tap the C button and you can see the other players on your team to see where or what they are doing. (hit C again to cylce through the remaining players on your team that are alive) This way you can watch and see if they are recovering a flag or... watch their last death. This is also a good way to just watch players and see how it works on the battlefield if it is all new to ya.

oh and tapping 9 will only deploy your chute. Not eject you from the aircraft. Take a look at your controls in the setting screen to make sure what everything does. you can change in there too.

Sometimes it takes time for the EA stats servers to update so don't gets your panties in a bunch if your hard earned points do not show up right away.

no i know that, this mod came out probably 2000 or so.

its just that all the classes and weapons that are in BF2 were in that mode too, and im pretty sure that mode was made by swedes too.

also alot of the weapons have the same feel and look to them. (only of course they look better in BF2).

ill try to google something later, im pretty sure 1 or more people involved with that project was in the BF2 team.

i dont really have time for that (statspadding) i have a few days free from work, and i wanna have as much fun as possible with this game.
i played a game at jalabad yesterday, and it was very intense, like a movie or something, tracers everywhere, rockets going back and forth and big explosions!

and today a game at karkand, infantry only, really intense. :)
so much fun i couldnt stop smiling.

im gonna try to find the servers with smallest map/ most people on them cause thats were the actions is.

thanks that helps alot. so getting killed loses me score, hmm gotta remember that and not do suicide so much (to relocate).
