dx 10 - wait to upgrade card?

Hi all - should i wait to upgrade my card until dx10 is released?
I was thinking of buying a new board and card tommorrow - but after reading some of the posts I am thinking it may be a good idea to wait until the release?

Eh, if you buy an evga card, you can use the step-up program...

ok well asides from that - i was thinking about getting the X1600, i mean, i jut can't drop 399.00 on a sweet card...I am limited to the $150.00 range...what do you recommend?

NCIX is ok, but you can usually find things a bit cheaper local, and quite a few of the local shops will pricematch NCIX (which also saves on any shipping charges).

Honestly I would go with an nvidia based card and evga is the smartest choice.

Wait about a month then buy one, they give you a 90 day window to trade your card in (you just pay the difference between the two) should a new card be released.

Rumor is, the DX 10 cards are due before the end of the year and this will give you the option to step-up to one should you choose.

I've used the evga step-up program several times and swear by it.

Isn't the step up program only for 30 days? Or is it 60? Still good idea if you need a fix until DX10. But remember that the DX10 card are going to need a good setup, like a good stable PSU, processor and whatnot, so make sure when you buy one that everything else is up to scratch

The step-up program lasts for 90 days after the date of purchase on your invoice

iwould get a decent card right now and wait until like next summer for the dx10 card prices to drop

Thats why I asked what card he had. I'm assuming its bad as he thinks an X1600 is a good upgrade, but he may instead have something that's perfectly adequate to tide him over.

hi guys thanks for all your responses, man there are some sweet options you guys offered. Here i was thinking that i had nailed the best prices. my card not is a radeon 9600 256 mb. i think i paid about 100 bucks for it. Ill nail down a few and post the options later. thanks again guys.

i got a question.....does it really matter if i get a 512mb? i mean can the graphics actually handle it?

512MB for an X1600 would be a waste of time. You'd be better of spending your money on a faster chipset with less RAM (i.e. an X1900 with 256MB would be faster)
