Thats the NATO given reporting name.
Hind (Mi-35), Fulcrum (MiG 29), Frogfoot (Su-34) are another examples.

        Take a look:

Ya man, I've seen the BF2 Wiki.

Just never heard it referred to as the 'Havoc' in game.

The HIND is difficult to fly because of the forward momentum it consistently has. When you get up in the air, trying taking your hand off the throttle and let it idle. You'll find the chopper likes to propel itself forward, which can be especially troublesome for hovering, although it is still possible.

Although I may receive some flaming for this, DICE or whoever developed how the HIND would fly in the game did so accurately (enough for a videogame). The HIND in real life is built for forward momentum, and in its entire lifespan is only capable of hovering for 200 hours (I think I read that on Wikipedia or someplace like it). Also keep in mind that the HIND in real life is designed to be a troop transport-gunship hybrid, a role which likely influences how the thing flies.

You got me on the missile thing, though. Although Wikipedia references early problems which include weapon sighting, this is likely more programming by DICE than anything else. If you try out POE2, you'll find the HIND not only flies much easier but also makes it easy for the pilot to actually hit his target with missiles, not to mention it also fulfills its real-life ability as a troop transport.

I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about, that's just my take on it.

              PageUp to that.

The gunner's cannon is like an automatic grenade launcher, totally devastating.

I've been playing this game for roughly 9 months and this is the first time I've heard that term used...

NATO and them gave all Russian aircraft alternative names, so you have the MI-28 'Havoc', and there's also the 'Hind', 'Hormone', 'Foxbat' and others.

Kantele, you think there is an uneven weight/thrust ratio for the Hind in this game because it is used as a gunship? Maybe if there was a load, such as troops on board, the bird it might respond normally?

Nah, the load would have nothing to do with it. What I meant was due to the hybrid function the chopper had to be built a lot different than most and thus faced challenges in getting it to move. I'll give DICE the benefit here when I say I think the forward momentum in the game was meant to emulate how the chopper was built in real life: with a focus on forward propulsion rather than lateral movement.

Oh ya, no doubt about that. EA/Dice is pretty good with how realistic the choppers are. I guess they wanted to mix it up a bit and bring about some new challenges.

Honestly, I love the hind. Not too many people fight for it which means I can get some seat time, it's great against almost everything although it's "flotating" tendancies tend to make it more of a challenge but it is nice to just float around and control the skies. With it's manueverability you really have to be careful of your surroundings which means that whomever is in the pilots seat needs to be a better pilot then say someone in the apache/cobra.

If I have a choice I would take the apache all day long though.

I never get a chance to fly the Apache.
Someone always beats me to it.

I prefer the Cobra though. Straight outta' the Nam.

Apache ftw clearly. But I have to agree with ken, since most people hate the Hind, it's hella easy to get it for yourself with little effort. :)

To me, I've always just explained it that in the rest of the AHs you simply need to think 2 steps ahead. But in the Hind, you have to think 3 steps ahead. It's just not as easy to handle as the other AHs.

The Hind is always my acid test for a good heli pilot though. If I'm flying an Apache and we go air-to-air with hellfires and he takes me out... hats off to him! :) Also, if I'm gunner in the Hind and my pilot can avoid AA successfully he should also get mad props. Although it's not impossible it does take some time and effort to get it down well enough to operate meaningfully in game with the Hind.

Guess that was the wrong chopper to try to learn to pilot on!!! I just kept crashing, so I gave up on all helos. I guess I will have to give it another try on the other birds!!
