Server patch question

I have d/loaded the windows server patch v1.4 but when i run the patch it asks me to confirm that I want to 'completely remove the application and all of its features'?

I don't understand, does the server patch have to uninstall the entire game files before it can run?

How can this be?

are you running you own server? i'd assume that it removes the previous version and installs the newer,,

if your updating normal bf2 you dont want to install the server patch

Its my own standalone server.

It just seems odd that the patch would have to uninstall the previous patch. I thought a patch was just that ie. it just goes over the top.

I think it unistalls the old server version, although im not certain since i diddnt run the update myself. Why would you want to keep the old version anyway?
