    Computer and Hardware Questions

Ok well, I've picked out the two things for my Christmas list this year, but incase they suck I still have time to change them. I'm fairly new here so I'm just gonna be up front about this.

    1. Will this computer run BF2 fairly well? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...u=I69-2119%20V

    2. Will BF2 support this card? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...231768&CatId=0

    3. Are there any better PCI-E cards in the 100-120$ price range? I saw a few others that I liked...but I saw this card had more memory.

    Thanks, Thrifty

Yes to the first two, but i'm not sure about the last one. I've been running an 7600 GT on a AMD 3000+ and it runs very smooth, so with the setup you've got there you sould be well off.

FYI: I wouldn't base building a new machine on a 2 year old game though. If you've gonna spend the cash, aim at the specs of...oh say BF2142.

    Hope this helps

      Re: Computer and Hardware Questions

The Geforce 8 series will be out by Xmas anyway so its probably a waste of time suggesting anything at the moment.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go for a better graphics chipset than the amount of RAM on a card. A 7600 will always beat a 7300, even if the 7600 had 128MB of RAM and the 7300 had 512MB. The manufacturer has put 512MB of RAM on that card purely to suck people in, a 7300 just is unable to use that much RAM. This will kick its ***:

      and this

      and this

As for the barebones you listed, its ok. You are obviously on a budget, so while not excellent, you should be able to get a reasonably decent gaming machine with that as a base without breaking the bank.

Ok, thanks guys. Forgot to mention I was on a budget here..

Anyway, BF2142 just doesn't really appeal to me, sorry, I'm just not into those futuristicly set games. Right now all I'm focusing on is to get the hell away from this crappy E Machines.... my poor thing just can't handle anything. And as far as cards go anything better than an FX5500 will work for me... so long as it can play BF2 (anything that can play BF2 is sure to play most other games )

Anyway thanks again guys, I'll look into those cards

BF2142 is a 2 year old game. Well, the engine is anyway.

All the extra stuff I need can come from this computer.

8x series willl prob be sortof expensive so if i can find a cheap card, then that would be good for waiting ...id go for a 6600gt ...its like just as good as the 7300 and prob cheaper..and maybe by next summer, the 8x series will drop in price

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130054 is better than the 6800xt and the x800gto, but slightly worse than that 7600gt xxx mlkmnz postedm but at a cheaper price.

But prices will be much different once DX10 cards come out, so it would probably be a good idea to check back again.
