    BF2 freezes after loading map

BF2 started freezing on me a few days ago, was running great till then. Don't think it is 1.4, since I was playing with it for a while. But now it freezes 5-20sec into the game after loading up a server/map. Music and Ventrillo still keep going after a shot pause, so it just seems to be BF2, can't alt-tab or anything though. Other games, like WoW, run fine still.

    System:
    Windows XP Professional
    AMD Athalon 64 3500+
    2gb RAM
Dual Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT (normally in SLI mode)
    Gigabyte nForce4 mobo (GA-K8N-SLI)
    On board sound (realtek AC'97)
    450W power supply

All my drivers are up to date, manually updated punkbuster, nothing is over clocked, no !'s in my hardware manager, checked my hardward and all my fans are running fine. I've tried reinstalling everything, running with low graphics, high graphics, without SLI, run windows repair install, everything I can think of... I know SLI has it's own problems, and I've been dealing with them as they've come, but this one I just can't figure out. I really need some help here!

At this point I'm about ready to reformat. :hmm:

    Bump plus and update.

I reinstalled BF2 and ran without any updates. It ran fine. I then updated to 1.3, it ran fine. Finally I updated to 1.4. I was able to join a single player game and play for a bit, then joined a multiplayer server and was fine. After restarting my computer and joining a multiplayer server again it froze after a minute or two, right before freezing my ping went way up. After rebooting it began freezing at the loading screen when the Join button comes up.

    bump... still need help

Re: BF2 freezes after loading map

This is happening to me too. The game doesn't EVER freeze in single player (which I play a lot of), but it always freezes 15 - 30 seconds into a multiplayer match. All of my other online games function fine.

    I have very similar specs:

    AMD 64 3500+ Venice
    2GB RAM
    7900GTX (no SLI)
    Gigabyte nForce 4 GA K8N
    Audigy ZS 2
