    Re: Project Reality Release!

And I certainly can not wait for that! 0.32's working great, you guys did a great job with the patch (obviously I couldn't thank you for that on the forums, but add me to the list of guys who can't run EJOD ) and I certainly can't wait for 0.4. I was tempted to make another account just to thank you guys some more!

I'll be watching the frontpage for more news, until then, see you on the real battlefield!

      Re: Project Reality Release!

After playing i have to say i'm fairly dissapointed, again. About 70% of the team are snipers, why you decided to make the one new weapon a sniper rifle, in a teamwork based game, is just weird. They are semi-auto and powerful, with the M24 being one hit kill anywhere if i remember correctly. Why do you guys (mods) always cater for the sniper? It doesn't bring in any teamwork. I think snipers should be pick up kits like in PoE (but ONLY pick up) to reduce the overall numbers.

The hit detection seems really bad because the only servers that get somewhat full are european ones, so everyone has a 100+ ping because they can't stay on their own continent, and so get the advantage of "blood puff" instead of actual hits on them. Especially annoying with snipers seeing as there rifles are so powerful and accurate.

I think that this mod is a good example of how BF2 just isn't designed for realism, the ......everything about it just makes it impossible for realism to work nice. Maybe it would be nice in LAN and private games where people are actually on the same continent on the server are playing or something, but it's awful on the internet.

Maybe 0.4 will be more than a mod that just added the odd vehicle, weapon (sniper rifle......), maps and removed some things from the HUD. I don't know how it's 900Mb but i'm not a software person so meh...

Hold your horses man! In PRMM 0.4 there's going to be a revolutionary kit limiting system, meaning only a couple snipers may be on each team at any one time! What's more, this number is apparently dynamic so the less players overall, the less snipers!

You can't fault the mod for this. The team try their hardest to publicise the mod and there are around 60 servers all around the world, it's the players who all pile into the full servers (and you can't blame them, it's great fun to play with huge teams!). I have a 2mb/s connection in the UK and I rarely get the "blood puff" problems myself.

Again man, don't judge a mod by your connection speed. If you've not played a round on PRMM in a tight knit squad with some of the best teamplayers, you're missing out mate.

You have to remember, PRMM isn't finished yet! It's only in version 0.322 currently and version 0.4 is coming soon, but you can be sure with all this feedback and advice that come 1.0, PR is going to be the best mod around! People always look at the modly too closely. Step back and see the bigger picture, the mod team are taking it slow so they can really pile in as many favourite features as possible. The forum is full of bright sparks with bright ideas and many have actually been put into the mod. The team are like no other I've seen, they really listen to advice and criticism and you can be sure that whatever you can fault about one version, it'll be sorted out in the next (as long as it isn't one of those DICE-related faults of course!).

Right now, you've got to give it to the team, considering PR is practically in its beta versions, they've done an amazing job to get as many players as they have. I think PR has the second most amount of players aside from PoE2, and although the playerbase isn't that big, there's always at least 2 populated servers for us dedicated teamplayers to go and have a rumble on.

I say you give it another shot once 0.4 is out. Hopefully, not too many vBF2ers will join and the teamplay will remain, but the new features the team have lined up are seriously going to be awesome.

          Re: Project Reality Release!

is the random deviation on the snipers still insane, went prone and zoomed a foot from a wall, fired a shot and the wall damage was nearly outside the zoom field of view.....

Edit: Just seen the maps and look sweeeet...

            Re: Project Reality Release!

            @Mekstizzle:

Yes you are right that certain aspects of the BF2 engine don't blend well with a "realism" mod.

To this point and including the upcoming v0.4 one of our main areas of focus has been on improving the Infantry combat dynamics. I think with v0.4 we'll have it where we think we're about as far as we can go in terms of major changes to the Infantry combat dynamics. And with v0.4 we'll start to shift our focus onto vehicular combat, probably getting the major chunks of work required there completed over 2 major releases (which are planned to be v0.4 and v1.0).

I don't think we'll ever be the largest mod heh.. it's really a niche "product".

wrt the choice of weapons we've added to date, honestly er... there wasn't really any plan to focus on snipers, it just sorta worked out that way.

We're a first time mod team who quite frankly in comparison to mods like PoE2 and FH .. er.. we don't have a clue what we're doing hehe. But we are a team made up of gamers and as we figure out how to be modders thinkwe'll come up with something that like minded gamers will enjoy.

I honestly think that our next major release, v0.4, will be more like a "real" first release in terms of features, changes and additions. The ones up to now have er.. largely been about learning what players want and how to deliver on it.

              Re: Project Reality Release!

Yeah, i'll definatly give it another go on 0.4 and i know that it's because of DICE and BF2 limitations that you guys can't do what you want to make it a proper realism mod.

Even FH2 is having problems because of dice, they have to decide whether they want big ships where they can use their shaders, but not use PB because of the 1.2 patch, or have PB but have ugly ships or no naval combat. It's stupid, read more on their forums about that one.
