BF2 + SF unlock query

i did a quick search but couldnt find anything that answered this for me...

if you own BF2 + SF and you rank up, do you get 1 unlock for BF2 and 1 for SF ?

as theres 2 guys in my clan who have the deluxe edition and they have been getting 2 unlocks per rank.

so i went and bought SF (also i wanted the L96A1 unlock), i rank to sargeant finish the round disconnect, close and reopen BF2 to get my unlock......but when i log in again i only have the 1 unlock not 2

also 1 of the guys had just installed SF again when he was mid rank and he got 5 unlocks!! 2 for reaching his current rank and 3 for his previous ranks

so is their unlocks a bug, or is the issue affecting me as i only got 1 ? if its my issue is there a way to fix it so i can get the other unlocks ?

also its only letting me unlock the tier 1 weapons for BF2 and none of the SF weapons like the L96A1

I'm assuming that you're new to the game. I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that a couple patches ago the ranking system was worked over, and the requirements became a lot more lax, which lead to a bunch of people working towards higher ranks lots of unlocks all of a sudden. I came to the game kind of late and everytime I got unlocks, I got them 2 at a time.

I'd love to answer your main question but I honestly don't know. I own SF but almost never play it. I haven't gotten enough time in special forces for even one unlock yet. I just don't really enjoy the expansion that much. I do, however, know that the guns in SF are what you're unlocking in BF2 (as well as flash grenades and tear gas).

im new to BF2 yes, but not FPS games (BF2 time is only a week or so)
my main issue is these guys have BF2 + SF and have some of the 2nd tier weapons in BF2 i.e the G36-C medic gun
where as my game seems to ignore that i have SF installed so while i wouldnt mind the 2 unlocks per rank like they have been getting i mainly want the L96A1 but its only lettimg me unlock the tier 1 guns for BF2

also the guy i mentioned above he re-installed SF 2 days ago when he heard the other guy was getting 2 unlocks per rank....then he hits the rank after gunnery sarge and got 5 unlocks....2 for reaching that rank and 3 im guessing as unlocks for the ranks he had missed, so he rank'd the day before i hit sargeant

also i havent actually played SF online yet, do i have to rank in that to get the tier 2 unlocks as my amtes are getting the option to unlock tier1 and tier2 just in BF2, and as far as i know the guy who just installed SF doesnt play SF online either only BF2

You get one unlock one the ranks below sargent and two unlocks for ranks above. (one for BF2 and one for SF)

Aahhhhhh. Yes. Go log in. You literally just have to be on for a minute or so. And it takes anywhere between 1 minute and 1 hour or more sometimes for it to register with the EA system, but you should see all your new unlocks by the end of the day.

i'll try your suggestion Jofaba as that sounds likely....i have the game reg'd but EA has no "active" stats logged as i havent played it online.....makes sense, thanks

Yup. You need only play online. You didn't have to buy SF either. One of your buddies could have logged on with your account to a SF server and you would have gotten SF unlocks from there on out.

*** UPDATE ***

YAY!! played 2 SF maps earned my airborne ribbon (10secs in a parachute)
finished the round logged off, logged on and had 3 unlocks

That was only true until shortly before the 1.2 patch & EF were released with the new AT and sniper unlocks. Since then you get a 2nd unlock at every unlock rank.
