    elements of 1942 in BF2?

alot of the sweet elements of BF42 reguarding naval engagements would be a really great idea in BF2 to eliminate alot of carrier base raping. I think carriers should be drivable like in 42, this way arty cant get a definet bead on the carrier. and it makes it a bit harder to always know where it is as a jet.

for that matter, they should bring back carrier/carrier/destroyer/destroyer/island battles like Midway, that would just be spectacular.

The only issue with that request is the same issue Trauma Studios had with their carrier in DC, it is a huge detailed and fully explorable object.

The ships in BF42 were small in comparison, as far as vertexes go. They had much less detail and moving them was easy, programiticaly speaking, without a heavy amount of load on not only the user's core video system but on the server as well.

When DC came out with the new carrier, it was HUGE in comparison to anything gamers had seen before in the BF Franchise and it was moveable. This caused many people, including those not within visual range of the carrier, to lag so bad (only while it was moving) that they actually waited 10 to 15 seconds between steps, meaning actual in-game footsteps. Trauma like the new carrier because of it's capacity to hold more aircraft and helos without having single object_spawners spawning multiple objects. They decided to make the new carrier unmovable to fix the lag issues.

I assume, as I don't actually know, that they were unable to fix that lag issue, simply because of the sheer size and vertice count of the object, and this why we don't have traditional Naval battles in BF2. That and the fact that modern day warfare (which BF2 is loosely based on) isn't as Naval to Naval (hehe) as it was in WWII. Most of what the Navy does now in war-contributions is support via air (bombers, tomahawks, fighters) as well as rapid troop deployment via helo and landing craft.

I wouldn't expect too much from EA in regards to Sea Combat in BF2, but like you, I miss the days of destroyers and submarines.

I think giving the US a mobile battleship With AA guns would even up wake island.

to fix wake island, is to fix air combat and ground to air combat.
