I keep seeing people doing this very neat rolling maneuver but I dont see how I can do it from the manual or from searches. It looks like this: an infantry unit drops down, rolls, and fires his weapon (usually doing lots of damage). How can I do this? Thanks.

Just hold strafe left/right when you prone.
It just looks like a side prone on your end but the other guy will see it as a roll.

They are NOT really rolling. That's just an animation that appears when you transition from standing to prone while strafing right or left.
That's all you do. Your screen will not roll, or anything..Comment
