People have complained forever about no other game modes, and no you have one, and you still complain
A supply line mode (capping flags in order) would of proberly been much more welcomed by the weider community than IO mode the just my oppinion though.

Obviously they use them less, because they're doing things no mere Karkand nade spammer can do, like flying choppers.

You're being misleading with your example. Lets use Zatar Wetlands 64 player. 4 players get jets, 2 players get the helo, 4 players get tanks, 2 players get mobile AA, 8 players get APCS, 2 are commanders, thats 20 players in vehicles already before counting passengers and gunners. Then there's those mounting fixed defences etc.

And BF2 was a game about mixed vehicle / combat, don't like it don't play it. But that's right, theres an allowable double standard here, whining is ok when it's whining for IO.

No, now SOME have an alternative game mode.

IO isn't a game mode in my book.

It's more a server side setting then anything else.

The "game" is still the same, cap flags, reduce tickets, win or lose.

A new mode would be CTF, assassin (eliminating a single player as the requirment for a win), last man standing (no respawns). Things of this nature are modes of play, not IO.

It's awesome when it's done right. It was great in '42.

                Basically.

You have to travel to the opposing players furthest base. Once you come within the range of the flag pole you (you yourself) have stolen the flag.

In '42 you could now be seen by both armies and an icon of that flag.

You must carry the flag all the way back to your home spawn point where once there it would score your team one point. If you die, the flag remains "alive" for a certain period of time (30 seconds to a minute). If the opposing player comes in contact with the downed flag, he is now in possesion of it. If a player from the team that the flag was stolen comes in contact with it, it returns to the pole from where it was stolen. You must kill the person carrying the flag and come in contact with it, or prevent the other team from comming in contact with it before the time limit, in order to return it.

Captured points still represent a place to spawn and have value as places where vehicles spawn.

It's a simple concept and one players can participate as a team, with little to no communication. We've got the flag, the carrier needs help. They've got the flag we need to get it back. I'll defend the the base where the our flag is located (uncappable).

I tried the Dcon mod, but felt it was a poor fit. A good effort and and well made mod, but maybe CTF just doesn't work well with BF2 unless it's radically altered. With testing and having it part of the original game as mode of play DICE may have been able to make it happen. Or maybe they tried and it just wasn't possible with the modern weapons.

All I know is it was a blast in '42 and it's all I ever played.

There were no uncap rules in '42 CTF. Since the location of the objective was an uncap it was attacked and seiged as part of the strategy. Elaborate defences were set up in order to protect the flag too. C4/Xpacks on the pole.

The ultimate flag capture in '42 went like this.

1.Find and snipe the engineer with his finger on the C4 button.

2.Drive a jeep through the middle of compound with a player on the hood. Through a glitch that was accepted as a good thing the player on the hood would immediately be in possesion of the flag. This was known as a "drive by".

                3. Once outside the range of the defenders, a two seat plane was used to "scoop" the flag carrier, since one could enter the open seat by holding his enter key. A good pilot could slow down enough and not hit you with his wing tip or prop and pick you up.

                4. Evade all other swifter more deadly single seat fighers by flying as high as you could while making your way to your home base.

                5. The flag carrier would bail out and free fall to the home flag pole to the last possible second making him the hardest possible target to hit.

The other was the plane switch.

                1. Some how come into possesion of the opposing flag at the enemy's pole.

                2. Time exactly with a pilot this possesion.

                3. He flies his plane in the direction of the pole and bails out.

                4. The empty aircraft is going slow enough to use the enter key for the flag carrier to get into with out killing him, but not slow enough were he can't gun it once he's in it and become airborn again.

This can also be done in the first scenario with the drive by if a two seat aircraft was not available.

Of course you could just get the thing and grind it out in a carrivan of vehicles while you pilots attempt to give you cover. A conga line of jeeps and tanks would be used.

Stay a good distance away from the vehicle/player carrying the flag, but not too far away. When he get's bombed. Drive up and take posssesion of the flag. Rinse and repeat till back at your home base.

Man I miss '42 CTF just describing it.

Oh there was another amazing capture too.

                The free fall loop/fly by.

A two seat plane would fly very high above the enemy's pole, the passenger would bail out and pull his shoot, slowly floating towards the flag.

The pilot would come around and time his low flying pass at the pole the same time the parchuter arrived.

The hybrid solo version of this was truely incredible.

A single seat aircraft flown by one pilot would do a loop at the pole. The loop's base would start low directly at the flag. At the apex of the loop above the flag pole the pilot would bail out.

Without pulling his shoot, he would free fall towards the flag. The plane keeping it's last heading would return to the bottom of the flag pole but much slower because the throttle was not applied.

The pilot and plane meet up again at the exact moment the pilot comes into possesion of the flag, and then uses his enter key to get into the plane instead of splatting on the ground.

It was an all or nothing attempt. He was either riding off into the sunset with the flag, or a pancake at the pole.

I want to be on a flag capturing it and instead of being forced to do the "nade dance" I have to engage my opponents rifle to rifle in a test of actual skill. Unfortunately for most Battlefield 2 players (24/7 Karkand whores especially) pointing your rifle at your enemy is too hard and it's much easier to toss a couple nades at your feet and kill everything in a 20 foot radius.. including yourself.
I agree on that nades should be 2 and that some kits shouldn't even have nades. I don't use them for a effort to get that one kill. I use rifle and it's even faster.

Just think clear and logic and be the hunter and not the prey and you'll get high k/d's and points. One rule I've always sticked to. Even a nade you can easily get away from them..

I think the nades should be reduced to 2X and some kits shouldn't even have nades.

Jesus Christ, thats why theres an option, if you can't cut it playing IO and find yourself only being blown to hell by nades, go back to your precious tanks and planes and leave those of us who enjoy IO the hell alone. I've never seen a gaming community so hell bent on complaining like a bunch of little bitches about every god damn thing. To some players out there, IO saved this game. I can armor whore it with the best of them, but it gets old. Heres something new that they've given us to keep the game interesting and you're just ungrateful...grow up.

No one is forcing any of you to play this game...if its so horrible, go find something else to entertain yourselves with.

Yep, and despite what people may think, nade spam was around far before 1.4/IO.
