Indeed. This has been the arguement for a long time now. If China has good pilots and are fast enough, it's almost impossible for the U.S. to take a base. That is why so many non-pilots don't like the map.
Get rid of the tanks at north and south villages. This way, the US have decent chance of getting a squad leader on one of the beach heads and actually holding it, instead of having half the PLA team with a tank blasting the daylights out of them.
One of the problems with Wake which I have never seen anyone mention is ticket bleed. If the US holds half the bases then the PLA should get a ticket bleed.
Many games played on US and by the time a base gets taken the ticket bleed has had a large impact. Even then the US can hold over half the bases but because of the initial ticket bleed its still hard to finish the job. Basically they either need to take all bases or make up for the bleed by killing a lot of PLA.
This is the biggest problem with Wake and balance in my view.
