If you are commander on the ground (not in command screen) the vehicle will drop exactly where you spot it.

Even if you are ontop of a building?

EDIT: Not possible on the building. Started my server and the results are the following.

The only odd thing I have observed post 1.4 is an annoying kit switch that took place EVERY time I was revived by a medic. I was playing Spec Ops and when I went down the first time and was revived, I popped up as an AT. Next time, still Spec Ops, I went down and popped up as Assault, then Medic. It happened every time I was revived. Really messed my whole round up. I got pissed and left the game. I tried playing again the next night in a different server and managed to play two whole rounds without ever being close enough to a medic to get a revive. So, I still don't know if this problem is server specific or if something else is the cause.

Just look around, your kit must be nearby, unless the other guy was revived first and already got your kit. It has happened a lot to me, but I just press 'G' and retrieve my old kit.
