What wireless radio are you using?

I have a Motorola Canopy 5.7 GHz radio that actually gives me reliable 5-7 MBit service and half-decent latency...when the weather or local network traffic aren't dragging me down.

Well, that's what you have when you live in the sticks...

I couldn't tell the wife 'no, we can't buy this house because we can't get DSL/cable' .. she just wouldn't have understood. Wireless was the compromise.

At least it isn't satellite

I really dunno, I am guessing its like an Intel Pro BG thingy....

My wireless speed is 56MBPS, its the download speed that sVcks, I can get a ping of around 100 - 160 from here (Thailand) to USA (California serVer). But, i 'lose connection' once in a while, which is typical for a wireless connection.

I'm not sure if the OP was saying that he has a wireless router in his house or a wireless ISP. IF it's just a wireless router he could get a high gain external antenna (provided his card has the appropriate connections), I know D-Link makes a pretty good one that I used for a while. He could also upgrade the router and/or NIC if he's stuck on 802.11b or something.

540 MB = 552,960 KB

at an aVerage of 6 KBPS download

552960/6 = 92160 seconds

92160 seconds/ 60 = 1536 minutes

= 25 hours...

There was an article in PC magazine this week saying that you can extend your Wireless connection to up to 20 miles!!!
