    Question on weapon aiming...frustrated

I've been holding off on posting and asking these questions, but after getting kicked around last night on a couple of maps, I decided to post.

Real simple, aiming weapon questions. I'll rattle off a few questions and see what everyone has to say.

1.) Do people 'look down the barrel' when firing (zooming in essentially)? This goes for all none scoped weapons.

2.) WHat is the proper way to aim, especially with support weapons?

Let me give a couple of examples of what happened last night and why I am a bit frustrated.

Was playing assault with first unlock. Was getting ready to defend a CP point. I came around a corner, and saw an enemy coming with PKM out. We both dropped to the ground, but I know I hit the ground first and started popping him. I KNOW I hit him a couple of times and thought I had him. BUT, all the sudden im dead and what confused me is this:

-I had the drop on him and starting opening up first, making hits.
-He had the PKM, which in my experience is hard to aim with or im not experienced enough with it.
-How quickly I was killed after he started firing.

After this happened a few times, against different classes, I came to the conclusion that I am not aiming right or something. With that, I started this thread.

So whats the trick, especially with support weapons? I enjoy playing support, but seem to have one hell of a time being accurate with the gun (PKM).

Anyone care to share some tips and experiences here?

    Thanks,

Well if you're using any of the support weapons...I usually aim down the Iron sights and line their chest up with about the middle of the sight. then fire in 3 round bursts. you gotta remember that after your first shot your recoil pulls you up naturally. so in most cases a three round burst or two usually ends up in a headshot for me. (using that tactic i just mentioned). Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the help. I will give that a shot.
I guess I was really surprised when he took me down with that PKM so quickly when I thought he was on his way out by me...

when using support, like pkm, i hardly ever look down the aimer...

just point the crosshairs at my target about torso height and open her up launching volleys of bullets (bursts)

never keep shooting with support weapons, they are only accurate at medium range when in burst fire. but in close range, who needs accuracy? =D

I was doing the same thing for a while. I found that by aiming slightly downward from where you think you should be aiming, you get slightly better results. Since with support weapons you're going to have more deviation with each additional shot (like ColdCircuit said, fire in shorter bursts) more of your shots may have missed, whereas the person who killed you could have landed a headshot or two that depleted your health faster than you did theirs.

They also might have had a more accurate gun, or possibly started firing from a prone position before they hit the ground..which should make them more inaccurate, but doesn't always seem to for some stupid reason.

CQC takes practice to understand how the game works (it's not like real life). Just because you get your shot off first, it doesn't mean you'll kill the enemy and survive. I've watched support guys turn a corner, go prone and aim for the legs (surprising the legs take a lot of damage and are easier to hit than the neck/head area).

If you come into combat with a support guy, they will typically go prone and then start unloading. Just run around them, jump and shoot. They follow you with their shots (each one they get off is less accurate) and have a hard time keeping up with your speed and angle of attack.

There are plenty of CQC / Aiming tactics out there and I'm sure if you searched a bit more you'll find some tips. I got tired of getting owned myself and began to try other tactics.

The G3 is tough to learn to aim with. I like the F2000 more. Also do a forum search, there is a comparison page where someone overlaid the center of the screen with the iron-sights on all the weapons, they're aren't all the same.

And in the case where you're suddenly dead, that's a headshot. Which a practiced PKM guy can nail pretty regularly at short/med range. Ironsights are also not always needed if you're doing single shot or small bursts, especially at close range. The PKM for instance is just as accurate without scoping in if you're only tapping off single shots or 2-3 round bursts. That .5 second you lose zooming in can often be costly. The main benefits of the iron sight are reduced recoil, and it makes it easier for you the player to line the shot up.

EDIT: One other thing I thought of (Vesuvan made me think of it.) Get in the habbit of aiming at people's legs when you dive. If you're aiming high, and they dive, you'll miss. It's lag. They hit the "z" key as soon as they see you, but you don't see the prone animation right away, so you aim high. If you aim at their feet even though it looks like they're standing. If they've proned, you're now aiming at their head.

Yeah, sounds like a head shot to me. Or a high ping.

Also (not relevant), keep in mind, the pks' bullit rises at long range. So you'll need to aim a little low. And of couse tap your mouse, like the others said, for bursts.

Now if I could just dial in the MG. That thing I can't figure out.

every time you see an enemy, prone right away and pull up your ironsight at the same time, and start fireing. Works 95% of the time

Do what the pro players do.

Get a programmable mouse, Macro the Prone, then Aim, Fire, to your left mouse button.

Continue playing normally, youll get much better. Those of us who actually have to remember which buttons and lag between presses, suffer.

I thought the L85, medics second unlock, was a complete load of bullplop, I set it on single shot and now see it in a different light. You can take a guy out with two clicks while zoomed and pin point accuracy while unzoomed also, but for me its all down to using it in single shot mode...... tap tap tap, same thing with the support weapons, tap tap tap...

Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot.

I won a Razer Plasma gaming mouse recently (arrives tomorrow), so that might be fun to use and tinker with.
