A combined arms take on IO

So much complaining, and true enough IO servers will have alot of the old Karkand whores going to their spamming ways. But I have found that with squad maneuver the spamming can be brought to an standstill. We don't have to bend over and take the spamming lightly. Go ahead and let them spam their asses off, but we will take their flags, we will get ticket bleed, and we will win. The truth IO IS fun with no vehicles and no arty. You just have to think outside the karkand box.

My primary maps are pretty much NOT karkand, and so whenever we play those types of maps nothing changes in my mind. When a server goes there during a regular rotation, I notice that the teams play just like it's a regular map. We don't flip a spam switch in our mind just for that round. And we can play IO the same damn way.

My only issue is that pretty much all of the IO servers are karkand and Jalalabad. True enough the classic spamming servers are bringing in IO and it's going to be the same old ****. I just hate to hear so much criticism of a potentially fun gameplay mode, just because all the people who were spamming still are. I don't expect them to change, and I probably won't be playing karkand IO because I know that's what will be happening there. But any other map and I'll be all over it. The hell with the spammers, I'm not letting them **** in my cereal, I'm going to have fun with IO and I think you should too.

Re: A combined arms take on IO

I think IO is excellent, and without the issue of the grenade madness that seems to take over some servers it would be perfect. Yet I am also a little peeved by the fact that the main maps in rotation on almost all the IO servers i could find yesterday were karkand and jalalalabad. One server had Sharqi thrown into the mix, but that was about the extent of the variety. Now one of the things i was really lookin forward to was playing IO on some different maps and utilising areas that previously had been ignored because of vehicles. Unfortunately I'm assuming the complete lack of vehicles includes boats and therefore that rules out most of the other levels apart from Songhua Stalemate, Zatar and Mashtuur.

Anyway, fun can still be had, but perhaps it wouldnt be too much to ask to see a resolution of these issues at some point in the future?

Couldnt agree more, IO could be one of the most fun things they could have added. But since the only maps anyone plays are so confined that a nade kills half the team it makes it terrible. Also i really dont understand IO on 32/64 maps....who wants to run that much? IO should be limited to the 16 map size.

If my server was ranked, i would run a IO rotation of Mashtur, Sharqi, Jalalabad, Karkand, and Fallen from the PoE mod (unranked for this map of course, but a great infantry map (woods).

Agreed, have mentioned this myself before. However, IO full rotation servers will soon disappear, and it'll be back to 24/7 Karkand or 24/7 Jalalabad for the point farmers, leaving those who genuinely want to play as intended (overwhelm the enemy, take the map and a win) with a few empty servers to choose from.

Re: A combined arms take on IO

I just finished my my first round of Karkand and Jalalabad Infantry Only. I had alot of fun. The pushes are much harder, and it forces the medics and resupply to do what they are supposed to do, or no flags will be taken. It's like trying to take Hamburger Hill with a really small swiss army knife if your squad isn't strong.

I believe that Mashturr and Sharqi should be given thier due. The are both awesome infantry maps. (and i hate to say this because i hate this map, but wake might even be fun..)

Also it is nice having no vehicles or arty with a blast radius of 50 feet. It's almost like a Special Forces offensive though. Enter the city and secure it.

I agree that the grenade spam is lame, but im guilty of doing it all the time. Get good throwing them is all you have to do. It is all part of the gameplay. Now where is our grenading badges?

Karkand on IO is kinda erie....like you expect an apc or a tank to roll up by hotel or around square but they never come, it almost felt like single player when I played earlier lol. I haven't played in like 2 weeks (moving and intraweb down etc) then I hop in a server with some of my clanmates and just start owning face, honestly it was a breathe of fresh air and I agree 100% with your post.

I dont like how they made it sound like a new gamemode while changing almost nothing. They made the sprint time longer and added 2 options which could have and should have been in the game from the start anyway. Longer revive times and no vehicle options. Wow, what an innovating new gametype...

It also wasnt thought out very well either. It makes 2 classes almost completely useless. (anti-tank and engineer) While also providing the stat padders a nice new (legit) way to gain a ton of points. All that shockpaddling paid off after all huh?

Theres plenty of ways they could have done things different and theres plenty of ways to fix or improve whats wrong with this new "gametype" but whats the point of giving suggestions that never get used. Sure maybe a DICE employee will come in and read a post once a month but what does that matter if they dont take the suggestions and apply it to the game?

Actually i just played some IO and the top guy on the other side for 3 rounds was a guy who was playing AT. The option to include lightly armoured vehicles like humvees and vodniks (and speedboats) should have been included to allow people who like being an engineer something to repair. To be honest though, the engineer class is pretty bollocks anyway, so im not too bothered.

lol lets add a 2 sec delay on nade tossing, yeah i hate the nade spam as well but there is ways to get around it and PKM the crap out of them in a easy manner.

I enjoy IO mode. Its a good change of pace. 16 player Mashtuur is awesome with no vehicles.

A good mixed squad (2 medics, a support and a Spec Ops) is a devastating combination.
