Since commanders don't have artillery or vehicle drops in IO...can we fight now?
So now with IO, is it ok for Commander to fight?

you always could fight :|Originally posted by HarmorSince commanders don't have artillery or vehicle drops in IO...can we fight now?
you just don't earn points as a player (kills, flag caps, etc.)
is your question whether you earn points as a player?Comment

The point of commanders not playing actively is that they could focus on their job of commanding the troops, I don't see how arty of vehicle drops have anything to do with it.Originally posted by HarmorSince commanders don't have artillery or vehicle drops in IO...can we fight now?
As I see it the commander should be looking at the big picture and deploy (or at least attempt) in the right place and support them with UAV and crates. For me arty has recently been an auxiliary tool since many seem to think that they give free unlocks at the red icon or maybe that there is the highest concentration of enemies and you could maybe score one-two kills before getting hit by the arty.
I still think the commander should remain behind and do his/her job with the slight exception being 8v8 games where each player counts. If you multitask as a commander you will lose the general view of whats going on.Comment

heck, in 5v5 infantry matches on TWL I generally command, and usually stay back and defend a main.
IO or not, arty or not, its still in the best interest of your TEAM that you don't get involved. Dying too many times allows for flanks / etc... Just because you have 2 less buttons to press doesn't mean your job of overseeing the battle and the movements of your enemy is easier.Comment

Yes, as mentioned above, it's best just to stick with commanding and stay away from the fight. If anything, help protect a main point and assets (repair if damaged) but quickly go back to commanding.Comment

I'd like to think I am decent commander... and I fight. Sometimes.
Just travel very slowly. Karkand for example. Once we have a CP, I will slowly make my way to hotel. Slowly, because I stop every 25 yards to drop supplies/arty/UAV. If I get to hotel and it isn't ours and I can safely engage... I do.
Then there are the times when your team just sucks. I was commanding the other day, no one is following my orders (I was directing them to CP's that were undefended. But no... they continue to die at the far CP's.) So I took matters into my own hands. I took HOTEL, and that CHECKPOINT one by MYSELF.
How sad is that when the Commander HAS to start taking CP's. *sigh*
(By the way, that turned the game around for us and we won it!)Comment

And you can report the servers that kick you for fighting as commander. Rules like that are against the ROE.Originally posted by beaky65You can fight if the server rules let you fight! Some admins dont like commanders to do anything but command others dont care.Comment
