      800x600 FTW!

What does changing the Screen Resolution in BF2 do and what are the effects on the computer?

Changing the resolution just changes how many pixels are crammed in a square inch (correct me if im wrong). So basically, raising resolution make the video card put out more pixels, thus making it work harder and get rid of jaggies.

I run at 1280x1024 in bf2 and most other games. Some games i run at 1600x1200 (i.e. source games w/o hdr)

And way to lie punkboy. saying that u run 1280x1024 when its really 800x600 @ 5 fps. I dont think i speak for my when i say "pffft noob" Maybe you should just leave and never come back. Or we could start an online petition to ban you. Or well tell ur mommy that you said a bad word on the forums and ull get timeout.

That's not it, from what I've heard, the refresh rates don't matter nearly as much to LCD's as they do to CRT's.

The main argument in favor of CRT's has been that the colors are more realistic. LCD's have too much color sometimes...not accurately portrayed.

I will not say LCD's look bad, just that they currently are not "quite" as good as CRT's. The possible exceptions will be extremely expensive LCD's.

Correct on the LCD refresh rates. 75Hz on a CRT means the entire displayed image gets redrawn 75times per second, top to bottom. LCD's don't have to do this as their displays are dynamic.

People mentioning ghosting act like we are still in 1998 or something, LCDs have come along way since then and ghosting on many LCD displays are minimal to nonexistant these days.

Really how an image looks on a CRT vs LCD is relative to the amount of money spent on each device these days. Spend $500+ on a quality CRT and it will definitely put a $200 LCD to shame. Spend $500+ on a quality LCD and $200 on a CRT and the CRT is obviously going to look fugly, darker, and possibly blurry in comparison.
