Is it still possible to move onto master gunnery sergeant from master sergeant or do you need to get the 1st sergeant badge? (i never got my seven knife kills till after my 20000 pts)

you only need to have Master Sergeant to get Master Gunnery Sergeant

Requirements:
* Rank: Master Sergeant
* Score: 50,000

you will still move on. In order to get the advanced grade(rank) of 1st Sgt you need all basic combat badges. Then no matter what when you reach 50k you will be promoted to Master Guns unless you have the required basic badges, then you will get promoted to Sgt Maj.
MSgt= 20000 + no badge req
1st Sgt = 20000 + basic combat badges
