i own almost all of the battlefield franchise games. i play them almost everyday. i have had bad rounds, been threw my fair share of being baseraped and spwancamped. but the one thing i am seeing in every sever i go to almost no squads. or if there are squads, everybody is solo. i have read the post about how to improve your scores and teamplay and they all talk about squadplay. why do so many people run around with no support/communication with the commander. i hate it when i command and i see a sniper spam for a supply crate on the far edge of a zone. someone that is makeing progress and getting shot in the process needs it more. i guess i just want some feedback on where to go to get a good squad based sever where both teams squad up and then... gasp..... help other players in there squad and win the round. please let me know what you think. are we all doomed to play on severs where you see two squads with a member in each, and 2 dozen unassigned awful snipers that couldnt hit the broad-side of a barn.

Re: is squad play dead?
I was playing on the ORST server earlier and my whole team was squaded up. I don't know about the enemy, though. I don't recall the IP, but I'm sure you could find the server. -
Re: is squad play dead?
Squad play definitely isn't dead. I think almost everyone that comes in our server joins a squad. Whether they work together or not depends on the squad leader and the commander (and whether or not they have VoIP), but I honestly don't think it's dead.Comment

Re: is squad play dead?
I only think squad play depends on the squad leader's ability to survive longer in battle. If there's no squad leader to spawn on, squad members just spawn on the closest flag to the frontline, just like everyone else.Originally posted by VT NerdSquad play definitely isn't dead. Re: is squad play dead?
It's on life support on smaller maps.
I SL a lot and stay alive too, but I've been on "city" maps where my squad makes all the right moves and acheives all the commanders and my objectives, but we still get slaughtered.
Essentially if no other squad actively carries out orders, defends or even flag hops, one squad can't make a difference. That's kind of obvious, but the worse part is, not only can we not make a difference, we might actually be a deterent.
In some cases a tactical squad takes 4-6 good players (in the case of the guys I play with), out of the big K/D festival. I know it sounds whacky but if not another single squad (on either side) is attempting anything tactical, it might be just a better move to join the fracas.
I've come to the conclusion on certain servers that just letting the people in my squad rip away at the enemy when ever and where ever possible, while giving them a mobile spawn only when I can or when it's needed, is becomming a better strategy. It also increases my involvement in the body count.
This isn't always the case, but on many servers it is.Comment

Re: is squad play dead?
once played in a internode or gamearena server and on our side there were maybe 10 squads with only 1` person in each..? maybe ther is strategy behind it but i cannot see it.
other than that time ive always usually seen full squads, atleast most of the ppl in sqds. on a 32player side there may be upto 7 squads with usually around 2 or max 3 of them full-6-man-squads. ands the rest made up of 2 to 4 ppl squads. rest lone wolf. squadding up definately improves the gameplay and teamwork factor by a s-h-i-t-load = only way to play for meComment

Re: is squad play dead?
In my opinion, 1.3 is the biggest culprit
Changes to squad mechanics (disabling hopping) - I don't really join other peoples squads anymore, unless I really, REALLY want to be in that particular squad, or it's the first spawn of the round. It's just too much trouble and too clumsy. It's not just me, I see much less traffic in squad I created as well.
Another thing is switching spawns between rounds. This is much more fun, and tons of servers run it because of that. Sadly, it also breaks up squads. Before 1.3, traffic in squads was much higher and they'd fill regardless of them breaking up between rounds, now you get usually 1 (maybe 2) squads that took 2 hours to fill by same guys sticking around, and rest are lone leaders.
And finally, once you took 2 hours to get that full squad that fills up every round, server is going to crash.Comment

Re: is squad play dead?
i guess if you have a good leader you will follow him/her. For myself a good leader is someone who will go to a flag wher enoone is around form our team and hide ina spot and let the memebrs spawn on him to get to the flag.. (I only experinced this once.. and that was today... and guess what.. my squad was the first to get the flag...)Comment

Re: is squad play dead?
I don't think it's dead-it depends greatly on the server. I had several problems this weekend trying the effectively command with teamplay- 3 or more "buddies" were using the tanks and jeeps as taxis to their jets, copters and better yet spawn spamming as snipers demanding I feed them supplies---when they weren't taking the flags (which would have helped us greatly) and other teams doing an excellent job badly needed the supplies more then the "Buddy bunch" soon, as most of us honest teamplay commanders have seen more often recently, I'm seeing mutiny! votes over and over.
Sorry about the rant LOL, Has anyone come across this recently as well? I mean I respect a team player for his decision on what his class is, but come on support the whole team and not just your squad buddies.Comment

go into a BF2 server and say Teamwork and they will be like WTF is that, have you heard that before
some servers have "teamwork" and some dont
its just rare to find a server that has "TP"Comment

I'm not in a clan, and I try to squad up occasionally, but it seems I usually do MUCH better as a lone wolf. Plus I enjoy the game more.
