Get a router and end all your troubles, just make sure it has NAT.

Running a comp without multiple layers of protection is utterly retarded. Use a software firwall as well as a hardware firewall.

Totaly agree with ya there, formated 6 weeks or so ago allready ZA says 192131 Intrusions have been blocked since install, 11810 of those have been high rated .

ROFL your paranoid..., what youve gotta think is "what makes your comp so special that 1337 hackers will bother with it" ...., theres NO NEED for a software firewall unless you surf dodgy sites.., then if you get hacked its your own fault.

NO WAY you should keep any personal details on your comp if its connected to the internet anyway. I say been a slave to a software firewall is retarded when they dont actually do any good..., honestly search and find the professionals view on them youll be very (or not) suprised.

They reap paranoia in themselves and just draw your comp resources to a stand still ala norton/ windows native etc while not actually doing any good anyway.., they cant do anything that more than locking down/ turning off native exploitable services wouldnt solve.

hrm lemmeh see.., add a cpu/ram intensive program to solve it......, or turn off exploitable services saveing resources..., NO CONTEST!!!!!

Ever heard of block scanning and false positives? skript kiddies scan blocks of IP's looking for NATIVE windows exploits like file sharing etc.., nothing to worry about if you have it locked down. Think how much your comp has had to work to log all that shiznit!!!!>

Software firewalls are for the lazy and paranoid, i mean how can they be effective in a real situation? gonna stop a DDOS?? ROFL no way, you get a trojan? tough titty for downloading from untrusted sites. You computer has enough to do as it is.., its totally rediculous to think that it can handle all the complicated shiznit a firewall has to do as well AND at the same time be effective.

The only protection you need is to lock down my windows services and have a spyware killer. As you cant get hacked unless you accept a dodgy file, again then its your own fault if your not aware of the files you should look for or have dodgy m8s that would send you those.

Only one rule to remeber.....,

Outside cant get in unless requested from the inside.

Hardware firewalls are different ballgame all together, they protect at the gateway, thats whay they are on a seperate box dedicated to the firewalls work, surely that must tell you something about a software firewalls effectiveness? since most corperate solutions use dedicated hardware.

i only have a hardware firewall and thats all i need, well i say that but really i have the SP2 Software firewall to but thats something you dont really notice and doesnt sit in your systray all day

well whenever i run bf2 with zone alarm on i get horrible lag as in every second the screen will jump, im using it on game mode as well. do i have to configure it or is it just a fire being a firewall? will it do me any favours just having the normal windows firewall on?

i just feel good about having the firewall turned off, unless what that guy says is correct and im safe while gaming!

thats shoudve said i don tfeel good about having the firewall turned off. to the guys that play BF2 with firewalls - what r u guys doin that im not cos whenever i play with zonealarm or windows firewall on i get horrendous lag
