I was talking to my friend who is apart of the beta for 2142 and he said beta 1 was pretty cool. Now after Beta 2 came out he notice something, 21 huge billboards were placed all over the map not to mention 5 in a row. Now he found out that EA intends on placing huge ads all over the map (even small ones on walls of buildings). Now I really think 2142 will be a fun game but Im not going to pay 50 dollars to see ads for mcdonalds in a overtweaked version of Bf2.,Im going to stick with battlefield 2 which although is getting older still has mods like PoE 2 to get into and soon many more mods (Battlefield Pirates 2) which will extend the community even more.
As a side note over 100 people (to about 30) who are also apart of the beta apparently voted that they do not like this Ad thing at all/wont buy it
Oh and Straight out of IGN
Despite some of the differences, the maps felt strangely familiar to each other. They had their visual variations and dissimilar missile silo positions, but after a few minutes of intense play, the maps blended into one another. Even so, we still had fun, though heard one disheartening fact. It seems Battlefield 2142 will be incorporating in-game advertising in the form of textures on billboards. According to a representative from developer DICE, this won't translate into any kind of benefit for gamers, such as a price drop. There also won't be any way to turn it off. It seems the absurdity of placing contemporary company ads in a game set 136 years in the future wasn't a factor when the contract was signed. As to who'll be providing the ads, DICE wouldn't say.
