Stuttering for the first 5 mins of a map

Everytime I join a new server, I will get a stutter every 1 second or so, with my HDD light flashing in sync with this stutter. It is ATROCIOUSLY annoying, and I know a lot of other BF2 players who also suffer from it. Is this a common problem with a known solution?

The HDD activity stops after about 5mins or so (or if I quit bf2). I have no cr*p running in the BG that would cause this stuttering. I have also set pb_sleep to 500 in order to reign in those punkbuster harddrive checks, but still to no avail.

Any ideas?

Ram. the stutter is a result of not enought ram. 1 gig MAY be enough to run the game, but BF2 takes as much as 1 gig leaving nothing for other programs, get 2 gigs dual channel preferably ddr2 if you have intel, even tho you have nothing running your essential progs are always taking ram, like windows explorer etc. but if it is a HD stutter if you hear CLICKS coming from your HD pray, do a restore if you can, if not reformat, ive had these problems with BF2 all the verifying can seriously borck a HD, although not many people know this, but if you can restore to before you had these stutters then do it.

Ah that could just be it. I DO only have 1Gb of RAM. I'll give it a go. Cheers.

yea its most likely a problem with your virtual mem, see bf2 needs more ram than you have so once in a awhile it has to take it from your harddrive, and that is a painful process causing you to stutter, moreso if you have a slow ATA drive.

yea turn off ur pagefile and the stuttering will go away...but then u will have to turn down some settings so u dont overload ur ram

or it could be texture loading into your video ram. How much does your v-card have? Try turning down texture detail from high to medium

I even have stuttering @ the start of the round for about the first 5 secs, it's 1.3, didn't happen until 1.3. Just wait for 1.4 and hopefully things might improve.

I have 512 RAM. I do not suffer from any lag. I also run it on Medium. What are your PC Specs ?
