how to diagnose where is problem?

there is one solution:
1) open command prompt
2) (turn off firewall) type: ping www.google.com
3) you should get 30-40ms values

if not ... call your ISP technical support .... maybe you need to enter DNS servers in your network connection setup or something else ... who knows ...

but ... if you are using WiFi ... then ... so many things can go wrong ...

thanks for the ping checker _X_. i used to use wifi. it doesn't really affect your pings, you just get a lot of 'you have lost connection to the server' messages which are a real pain when you are in an aircraft. when you have a connection 3-4 seconds later you have crashed!

There are some that have post a little advice, that is good. Most of it is crap. Becarful who you listen to.

The Super Mod has no Idea. If 75% of people don't cheat, what about the other 25%. LMAO...Altho his numbers are close. Trust me PunkBuster is doing its job. However EA/DICE Stop it right there. There is NO follow up after a cheat is detected. Really BF2 encourages cheats. What good is it to catch someone cheating if nothing happen???Enough of this cheat talk...

The best one of these is making PB sleep, this will STOP alot of lagg. I printed the whole list. Alot of great advice here.

You havn't posted your rank. My first unlock was the L85. prone, crouch, standing. This gun is awesome. Close, med. ,sniper range. Single fire mode only... Some have already talked about burst fire. A good idea .

I know this is hard to belive. A ping of 100 is better than a ping of 60, it really won't make that much diff. Unless you can get it down to 10 or 20!This why most servers will kick at 200 or 250. Once you use the pb_sleep 500
You will shooting cheaters left and right. You will be shooting everyone left and right. One can always tell when there is a cheater in the server your on.
Your ping will go from 100 to 200 for no reason. One cheater can wreck havco on a 64 man server. I hope this helps

Use any of the AKs, the RPK, or the pump shotgun. The best standard weapons for a beginner IMO.

Don't worry, your KD ratio will rise up, and at 70-90 hours of play you will get a KDR of 1:1 +/- (in a round). (<- that's nice btw)

And for the guys here said unlocks are no big deal...
I find most of the stock weps much harder to use and kill with than most of the unlocks.
ie medic, assult and at (as mentioned), the sniper can penetrate a bulletproof glass, the spec ops' G36C gives you a big advantage over the stock wep.


Just practice, everyone were noobs when they started playing.

BTW do you have some FPS Multi-player experience from other games?
That makes some difference...
I played CS 1.6 and source like 2 years / 1 year, and I kinda knew how to play when I first started BF2.
Doesn't mean i'm not a noob now

1. Ok, the first step is very simple, join any BF2 online server which is running punkbuster, preferably a ranked one.
2. Once you are in, and respawned somewhere, press the ` key. This key is located on most keyboards above the tab key and to the left of the 1 key
3. Once you have pressed this, a large white box should drop down with a load of text in it. Type pb_sleep 500 and hit the enter key
4. Once you have done this, make sure the box is still up and type pb_writecfg to save your settings

This is way to not have connection lost on WiFi every 60sec and it works!

What ping tells you?
It tells you how fast data goes and returns from that server. So if you play on server that you have 100ms ping to it data you are recieving is 1/10 of second late. Enemy that you are fireing at, was there before 1/10 of a second. So you must calculate that and shoot in front of him where he realy is because you are shooting at location where he is not (because of lag/high ping you see him where he was 1/10 sec).

Why www.google.com?
Because you wont spend time waiting for there servers to proces you request for ping.

Another tool to test you connection:

1) Open Command prompt
2) (close firewall in any case) type: tracert www.totalbf2.com (or ip adress of favorite bf2 server)
3) you will see how data from your computer travels to that adress. less steps (hoops) it makes thats better. every step (hoop) makes a little lag of a few ms but if you have 20 of them then ...

In most cases you cannot change the way data travels because it depends on you ISP settings. You can always ask there technical support for help but chances are slim. Other way is to change ISP. Best practise is to find someone that uses that other ISP (Internet Service Provider) and ask him to type: ping www.google.com and to tell you result. If your result is 100 and his 20-30 his provider is better (in most cases).

Even with a ping of 100, if your skilled you will always kick ***. A good ping I normally go for is under 50, under 100 if possible but I rarely play over 100.

Even with all the patches, alot of skill is required in BF2. To an extent, the game is trying to simulate a proper battlefield. Guns, kits are balanced in relation to each other. Some guns are weaker than others which means you will need more hits to get a kill. For example if you use a sub machine gun against a player with a G3, chances are your gonna lose if he sees you. That's not to say you can't beat that player with that gun, it just depends on the tactics you use. So don't put yourself in situations whereby it's likly you'll die.

Another point, it's not fair to call every player that is better than you a cheater. It is true some players do cheat, but the vast majority of players play fairly. You will gradually learn as time goes on which players are just damn good and which players are too good. Too good in the sense that you know certain kills at those distances aren't possible/likly to occur so often in one round.

I have been accused of hacking 4 or 5 times. Mainly it's players that really don't understand how the game works. For example don't expect to hit and kill a target far away with a gun on auto. Then there are other players that will blame you for hacking when they die no matter how rediculous their claim is. Eg crashing their helicopter.... On such servers, it is custom to lol and taunt, if it's an admin abusing his power, too bad play elsewhere.

Practise makes perfect.

When I run

Don't worry and keep working on it. There are some people who are naturally great at games such as this, but most people start as pretty poor players. I think I was even worse when I started - I averaged some 3 kills per round, with no less than 15 deaths.

The general rule is, if you play more, you'll get better. It takes some people more time, some less, but you'll see yourself that you improve rapidly. First, you'll start getting like 10 kills for 20 deaths, then better and better, as your rate approaches 1:1.

A ping of around 100 is fine. It's not ideal, but most players will agree that 100 is well within acceptable pings. The main general rule for pings is to play on servers that are close to you geographically. If you are in Israel, then you can expect the best pings from servers located in Greece, Turkey or elsewhere in the area. _X_ says it well about the pings.

I've played games with no servers close to me, so a ping of 100-120, and it wasn't a big problem. Unless your ping exceeds 150, you're unlikely to see much of a negative effect from it.

Your computer configuration, though, is somewhat important. When I had a weaker video card, I would have 2-3 deaths per round that I dubbed "FPS-induced deaths" - where I would die because of a drop to really low framerates, which left no chance to hit anything.

Hacking and cheating? Sure, there are these people who do. But if you play on Punkbuster servers (and you always should), then 99% of the people there play fair. If someone beats you, he probably had better luck and/or skill, not cheats. I've one see an infantryman playing as support kit, who had 32 kills when he died for the first time in the round. Even despite that, I'm still not sure if he cheated - I had a few fights with him, and he was damn good.

"* and *** request timed out" are normal ... those are severs that are configured not to give you info about there name and ping ... you can switch it off even for your PC so when someone ping you IP adress he gets * * * Request timed Out (this is configured in firewall). This is a way to set security to high level but it is not recemended to do on PC that is in use as gaming platform :)

anyway ... if ISP#1 gives you more hoops (steps) to some gaming server then ISP#2 and also ISP#2 gives you lower ping to same server then you should switch to ISP#2. But ... less hoops doesnt mean that ping will be lower and vice versa.

tracert command gives you "road" that data from your pc "travels" to server ... but ... on some "roads" data travels faster and on some slower ...

bottom line ... if you have ping 100 and enemy 50 its highly likely that you will die in close combat because your enemy sees more accurate picture of situation. for fast vehicles like planes its even more important.

final tip for now :) : you are sending data about you actions and reciving data about everybody else in game (simlpified version of how netcode functions)... so what on your pc loks like headshot, reality is that you missed target.

had the game about a week now and everytime i play a round i end up dying 20+ times with maybe 5 or 6 kills to my name. the problem almost always occurs in those situations where u encounter an enemy, face to face and by surprise. 9 times outa 10 we'l be shootin at each other and i die. hence im really am getin a bit sick of it.

1- the servers are riddled with cheats

well, youre not the only one. - as already mentioned it isnt cheats, its simply skill, experience, luck of the draw and honed reactions.......all of which will come when you have more experience, crikey i must have the patience of a saint compared to you, i have had that happen for over a year, heck, it still does, its just part of the game....am better at it now, a lot better.

dont look at it as frustration, as the whole game will get you down with that attitude, look at it as a direct challenge to improve and eventually making those odds more favourable for you, you will be wholly satisfied when you, start to win those quick reaction, close quarter shoot outs!!! if i can do it, you can do it!!!

there is a lot of macro users, who use a single mouse/key click to dive down and fire, admittedly that is sometimes frustrating, as they will nearly always win, but as i say, if you can practise and compete again automatons, then god help any manual foot soldier when he comes to get it on with you.
