Silly Question (VoIP How??)

Everyone is going to think I am the worst noob going asking this question but here goes...

Whenever I install BF2 i see the configure Mic box and (with my little jack plug cd player kinda connector NOT USB Mic) plugged in I try to set the sound level and get nothing, then when i choose close or save settings I get win XP giving me a little program crashed box. (Continued...)

I added the top bit just to explain this next bit..

I have never been able to understand how to make the VoIP thing work, I join Battlecom enabled servers and join squads etc but ive never once heard someone talking using a mic, do i need to enable some special settings ive got all my ingame settings set to allow voice etc as standard but nothing.

People do talk on the microphone. They just dont use it very often. They dont have much to talk about =) I dont understand your question.

Do you want to figure out how to make your microphone work ?

Do you want to figure how to hear others ?

If you want to know how to hear others than your set. You dont have to set up anything, just go inside a game. Notice that not many people talk since they like doing everything alone if or not they are in a squad.
