Thanks to everyone who made the previous Discussion Topic a great success We are back with a new Discussion Topic, lets get on with it.

Server Shut Downs, Yay or Nay, There are mixed feelings about why people think that servers been shut down, maybe for acts that are totally out of line or acts that may very from BF2 rules by an admin dicision.

Several servers under various owners have been shut down for such rule breaks as "Stat Padding" "Knife and Pistol Only" "infantry only" and so on. I'll take the BF2 Rules serious in this discussion as they are there to be enforced, but i'll also take into concideration that people make their own rules and enforce them on their server.

I'll focus on what i think are the biggest rules, and the smallest, we wont worry about the middle few.

The rules as i know them. Teamkilling, is an auto ban, its a major rule that if broken is a serious offense and can lead to your account been reset, Stat Padding AKA Cheating for points, again a Bannable Offence and can lead to your account been reset, Infantry only servers, is a server ban, owners get there servers taken away for this rule break.

My oppinion, Teamkilling, Yes is a bannable offense, no this ranks nowhere near enough to reset an account. Stat padding, Yes a bannable offence, yes accounts should be reset, I'll make a point about a slight slip on this rule later. Infantry only server, Is a server bannable offence, Not a chance, when EA/Dice released that in patch 1.4 there would be infantry only, this rule was kicked from the book on all patches not just for 1.4 which many still moan about.

The stat padding slip, every server does it, every player does it, i dont care how angel like you say you are, you do it, and you dont even know your doing it most of the time. If this was a bannable offense and account reset on every player, then BF2 would not be a game.

Back to servers, im not saying that servers should break all rules, But when someone has forked out 100's of pounds, dollers, euro's and any other currency, they should be allowed to break certain rules, if they choose to host a knife only round then they should be allowed, its one map, one round out of many, why the hell should EA care?, they are loaded to the eye balls with cash.

Its the people that cant hack loosing that report servers for such small rule breaks, and for that they should shame them selves because they have just commited an act of Stat padding, they just lost 20 people there ranks, so they can be higher in the BF2 food chain, thats what i mean by you dont even know your doing it.

I totally agree with everything u said except the one about knife/pistol servers. If a server does one round, and says no big deal, what if they do it, and again. No big deal? I dont think so. Soon they'll turn into a complete k/p server, and we dont want that. In any case, EA's ROE definitly needs a revamp and definitly needs to soften up on certain rules.

Yeah i can see where your coming from, and thats what alot of people need to take into concideration, 1 round here and there, to an entire server of knife and pistol, it would get beyond the rules, but a round here and there would'nt break the rules in a major way.

but a knife only or pistol only round DOES break the rules, per EA, so the discussion is a moot point about you wanting to get points and a badge

You should not need to have a knife/pistol round just to get the badge. If you can't get the badge honestly then quite frankly, you don't deserve it. You will get it if you work at it, but setting yourself up for a K/P round is lazy.

There is the argument that K/P is fun. But, in my opinion, it's no more fun than running around tanks and into fire with your knife drawn trying to shank any unsuspecting hostiles. That will make you laugh just as much. Everyone is worried that they will ruin their K/D ratio, but I don't think that a few rounds of play will affect your K/D that has accumulated for hundreds of hours.

Another thing not mentioned is how some servers turn off FF or even reduce it. Technically, servers shouldn't even turn off the punish option, but many do.

That's because they can under the ROE.

Let's be honest, as cool as it might look the whole badge ribbon thing has been a disaster. If you are a good to very good player but have low hours (therfore low rank) you get called a n00b for every mistakes or accidents. If you are someone with way too much time on you hands you can get a high rank. For exemple should this guy get such a high rank??? http://bf2player.com/index.php?page=...006&show=all-e

So honestly who cares about knifes and pistol servers? (except for EA) By includinging this award system EA made sure that people were not going to play the game right.

Oh and next, just heard, they are going to put advertisments in 2142!!!

Infantry Only. Honestly, I couldn't care less...but if it's still against the rules, yes bannable and the server should be removed from ranking. People who break the rules at heart are those who will continue to break the rules.

Calling bullcrap on that one. People know if they are stad padding...easy example being kill revive kill revive kill revive with a buddy stat padder that wont shoot you while you revive. I've never stad padded. I simply go in and play with no sinister plans of doing anything else. Stad padding? BAN AND ACCOUNT WIPE. If you're calling reviving everyone you see around you stat padding, that's just a medic not doing his job well. That's just stupidity, not stat padding. Smart medics put a priority on their revive targets.

If you give someone a little rope, they'll pull as much as they can out of your hands. If they can get away with one day, they'll keep doing it until they have a 24/7 knife server. I'm not saying every server would, but there ARE server owners who are like that. It's because of abusers like that that we have such rules against it. One easy example is this. I work on a mod for another game. To help with problem-makers in the servers, there was an admin slay option. However, some abusers out there took that command and abused it on players...so the next version of the mod, adminslay was removed from the mod completely. Due to the abuse of a few, the whole cannot enjoy.

Again, you're full of crap. I report servers for breaking rules because they are breaking rules. You're saying only people who don't know how to hack report servers? What the heck? My ROLE with IGN/gamespy is being an anti-hacker. They should also "shame" themselves for doing what's right....reporting servers of admin abuse and breaking the ROE? Also, you claim they are stat padding for reporting illegal servers? Are you a four year old? Do you even know what stat padding is? Stat padding is where your account receives a gain that is against the rules. Reporting a server isn't "stat padding". Perhaps when you get a "clue" about things, you might have a topic worth debating or discussing.

I'm HOPING you're some faker pretending to be from Illusions...because you sure as heck are ruining their reputation making them seem "uninformed" and "without a clue" on how the game works.

Calling bullcrap, what did i say?, i dont care how angel like you say your are, i dont care if you say your rambo, you've done it in some way, shape or form, you say you enter a game with no plans but to kill, what if your in an attack chopper(gunner) and your pilot is circling the base to kill anyone the spawns, your telling me you dont fire, dont talk stupid, making your self out to be a golden gamer.

Please know your grammer before you try and call someone on it, yes i make simple small spelling mistakes from time to time, i call my self on it.

Im a realist, that means i call what i see, and i make my own choices in life, not following some rules that ROE make up, your trying to make the game a better place and i hold my hat off to you, but you dont have a clue whats happening in the big picture, look beyond your screen for once.

Let me ask you this, if your account got reset now, what would you think? would it be ohh well i suppose i deserved it, or would you be slapping the bolts outta your PC wondering why such a poor decision was made?

And please answer honestly, not so you can play up infront of people.

These Discussions pass the point of how a damn game works, i make these discussions so everyone has there say, but the way you flared on this topic, makes not only myself but others think, if its people like you that make decisions on whether to Ban folk then they have no chance in hell.
