1.3 patch problems

ok, this is a long drawn out process...
I bought SF and it wasn't working right so i decided to uninstall/reinstall the game. Uninstall worked fine, reinstalled BF2, then SF like i was supposed to. I had a copy of full 1.3 patch already downloaded (from previously) and tried to install that. when i clicked on the icon, it would start working (starting up processes when i looked in task manager) but would never actually start the patching program. I deleted that one, redownloaded the patch through EA's website, and tried to install the patch again. same problem, the patch shows that it is taking up cycles but does not actually start patching the game.
I have tried starting the patching program in safe mode, and on both of my hard disks, no luck. i searched through the forums on here and EA's website, and the only thing people say to do i've seen is redownload the patch or try it in safe mode (both had same result, nothing). any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Full Windows reinstall or wait for 1.4 patch. Seriously, you could spend weeks trying to fix this...

sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes to get the patch process rolling on some computers.. not sure why it takes so long to extract but it's quite the package.. leave it for about 15 minutes come back and see if it brings up the prompt.. could just be extracting slow if you haven't defgragged in a while or your system is slow in general or your hard drive is kinda hammered...

i left it overnight last night, to no avail. nothing happened. i should've just lived with the lack of being able to play special forces so i could just play BF2...
