repeated connection loss

HI :hi:

I can normally go for a few hours without a CTD or Connection loss.

Then sometimes I start my computer from a fresh boot and start to play and get a Connection Loss after I've been in the game for about 3 minutes or so. Then after finding a different server, I get a repeat- play for a few minutes, then Lose connection. I will try again on different servers each time and it keeps happening, but other times I can play for hours without issues like I mentioned.

I know 1.3 has an issue with CTD and server crashes, but I don't think what I'm experiencing is a server crash since I get the same thing on different servers.

I am just wondering if it might really be my connection or hardware issue, or is this really a 1.3 variant? If so, what is the best way to get around it? Restart the game, computer, etc.

All 64 size servers are like this, as all angry people say, EA does not challenge everything, 'Crash Everything!'

so what I'm experiencing is normal for BF2?

I mean it's been driving me crazy because it is so random, and once it starts happening, it's like someone doesn't want me to play at all because it happens on EVERY server I join.

So, going to a smaller map/server might help?

I get connection problems all the time now, as before 1.3 i didn't.

If you are loading map and finished...DO NOT DIRECTLY CLICK JOIN! Wait 10 Seconds...exactly! then click join game

as always with computers, we can't completely rule out that it might be a hardware issue on your end, however, 1.3 has been confirmed by EA/DICE to have introduced several CTD and server crash related issues to BF2 (as you are aware) and your symptoms sound right on par with it.

either revert back to the much more stable v1.22 for now, or sit tight for the 1.4 patch that is due out shortly (and that we are all praying fixes the current functionality problems post 1.3)

I've got 0 experience with 1.3 (never bothered to upgrade once I heard all the problems), so I don't know if your technique of waiting 10 seconds is a true work-around, but if it plays out on your system, great; it certainly couldn't hurt for others to give it a try as-well.

Isn't there already no ranked servers in 1.22? You should upgrade...

there are still a few running 1.22 that appear to be ranked (my stats are updating); they are always full 64s too.. but alas, I'm still holding out for 1.4 (screw 1.3) so I can really get back into the fight.

wow! but can't join your great party, my clan leader didnt want that, he says to remain the server in 1.3

You might have a dying modem. A friend was also going through teh same thing and as soon as he changed the modem out, everything seems to have gotten better.

Aside from being so obvious, can you do any tricks other than flaming everything? Any grain of constructive reply at all? You sure aren't going to make too many friends with that 'tude

CTD = Crash when you click "join now" and the game is being closed.
Server crash = When "Join now" button appears to you ..

Well, I have experienced the CTD and I sometimes blame myself for clicking the Join button too quickly because I know about that.

However, with my problem, I can get into the game and play for a few minutes before I lose connection. I don't think this has to do with how quickly I hit the Join button. No?

I have wondered about the modem. I think I'm going to get a replacement just because I've had it for a few years now. Thanks for the advice!
