Rank means nothing, I have +200 hours of BF2, but only about +50 hours of ranked play. So I have a low rank shown in game, but the hours of a higher ranked player, but they don't show hours in game:p

Yeah, I agree SPM, K/D ratio, and W/L ratio are huge when determining skill.

Rank is pointless. I've played with lower ranked players who played way better than alot of officers. I have seen Officers who played on their own whoring a chopper or jet. Yay, you got to officer by whoring choppers, big hairy deal (not pointed at anyone here specifically).

Just becasue someone has high rank doesn't mean their any good. Sure you expect a certaim level of competance from hi ranks but it doesn't mean it will be that way. I think alot of people stat pad jst to get the rank for bragging rights. That whole stroking your e-penis thing.

Yeah, you got some folks with some uber high rank and a 1/1 KD ratio.. i'm not saying that's bad, but it would seem SKILL is lacking.

Fool, any information about the enemy / friendly team is better than none.

I care about the rank symbols in game. If I'm vying for an asset with a same or higher ranked player I'll often let them have it, as thats probably their specialty and thats for the benefit of the team.

I also never punish what I consider to be high ranks, as I'm more confident it was accidental.

Similarly the highest ranked players on the team are usually going to finish in the top 5. Squadding up with them is a good idea.

But then again if you only ever play infantry maps like Karkand then rank means less, the top players are just the best nade spammers and revive whores.

Do I detect some "e-penis" envy?

Some players rank up by whoring an asset (e.g. J10), some players rank up whoring a map (Karkand), at the end of the day how they play is not always obvious from stats.

Whoring an asset for high spm is no different than whoring, say Karkand (the highest spm map) for high spm.

Well, I need to regress then to what I was getting at originally but did not expand on.

I feel that DiCE should have continued with a second tier rank. I think that to have gained Sergeant Major, you needed to have most all of your badges Vet. Now, when you continue that trend into Warrant Officers, they are held to a higher standard, that is harder to pad. Like Warrant Officer 1, you need to have an accuracy above 25%, demonstrating that you don't waste ammo and have learned over the last 60,000 points how to shoot straight. For Chief Warrant Officer 2, you need to have a K/D of 1.5 or 150%; meaning you need to kill 50% more than you die. Then to have Chief Warrant Officer 3 you need to have a SPM of 2.0+, this forces padders not to just sit in a jeep someplace and let it idle. At somepoint they would converge where Colonel is and then it is Expert All badges, plus positive stats in other areas. To mean that would help weed out the padders.

The way the General ranks work is right on, and my feeling is it would have given everyone that cares about their stats and how they play, something to gun for (pun intended).

I hope that was easy to follow.

Why didn't you just say that then Rocket? Those are some good ideas, though I've heard similar ones before.

Can someone tell me the importance of W/L ratio? I play on random pubbers, I usually take whatever side I log into, and try my best, but it is near enough at 1.0 after 500 hours or so. Is it possible to influence your win/loss soley on your personal actions? I just have my doubts, is there any other way to improve this other than team stacking, or even team switching?
To the OP, I have 300 points to go until I have to give up the Seargent Major rank, I know how you feel, not really looking forward to it!

You think so? My aviator kdr is only 2.5, yet I can often go 30-0 in the jet. So why is my kdr crap? It's because I have a go when others are too scared, like when the enemy have ace pilots, or when the airfield is being camped.

Also, my armour ratio is 4:1, yet others have 50:1. Are they better? No, they use armour on Karkand, and Sharqi, whereas I never use armour on infantry based maps. Further I always die in my tank, I never bail and run, because on maps like Zatar being isolated on foot is suicide anyway. However in Karkand or Sharqi bailing is a valid option, as there is cover and many light vehicles are around that you can take back to base.

SPM may be directly correlated with skill, it is has a higher correlation with the map, with Karkand being the highest, followed by Sharqi, etc., etc.

If you think yours are high, and that means skill then whatever man. Specialising in the medic kit on an infantry map immediately smells of stats whoring to me.

Players stats are only directly comparable if they have the same kit times, same asset times, and same map times, and even same wlr (or ratios thereof).

I care. I get a special feeling in my tummy when I frag an officer... especially a full bird or higher. It's the simple things that keep this fun for me.

                          Sorry about the promotion.

I like the celeb analogy, now you'll have people thinking 'there goes the high and mighty 2nd Liuet RocketChild.. hasn't he changed' a lot. You'll be accused of scumming it with the paupers whenever you ground pound. Shouldn't you be in the skies with the rest of your annointed chums?

Surely the utterly baffled noob privates are the more likely to accidentally TK you, given they haven't a clue what's going on? Whereas those of a high-rank tend to be more experienced and as such premeditated TKs for assets would be more likely to happen than accidental TKs?

I think you're being a bit nonsensically deferential. They don't really eat breakfast in full Horatio Nelson garb y'know.
