    Fix for the minimap?

Ok, ever since 1.03 the minimap has been bugging me. It's up to a point of me not wanting to play anymore.
With 1.03, they changed the minimap to change the zoomlevel dynamically.
Whenever you enter a new vehicletype, it zooms in to mediumlevel, until you change it, then it remembers the zoomlevel for that single type of vehicle.

I have always played BF games with the minimap zoomed all the way out.
I like to get the big picture of things, and plan which flag to conquer next.
Also makes it easier to see enemies (especially planes) spotted by teammates, even if they're out of your immediate range.

As it is now, everytime i start BF2 and enter a game for a "quickie", i have to zoom out the minimap everytime i enter a new vehicletype. Enter a tank? First thing i have to do is change the zoomlevel. Enter an APC, change zoomlevel. I'll take that chopper there, but wait, gotta change the zoomlevel before i can take off...You get the picture.
So BF2 games means pressing "Z" alot...(the button i bound the minimap zoom level to). After a while, i have been in all the vehicletypes, and i can concentrate on the gameplay.
When i start a new game, the process starts all over.

I thought of binding the key to one of the mouse buttons, but they're already being used for more important stuff...

Is there a way to make the minimap always stay zoomed out? Like before they forked it up?

    Help me...my "Z" button is wearing down...:p

Minimap zooming is the FIRST task I do, after a while you get used to it and youll bever notice that youve already zoomed it out. Not a big problem really.

Your Z button won't be wearing down any quicker than citymap/infantry players, so you're safe there.

I also wish they hadn't ****ed with it. Not only because of the vehicles, but because it also zooms all the way back out when I use the Q commo rose and also when I get revived. Very irritating since when I get revived it's usually because my squad is going toe-to-toe with an enemy squad near a flag and there's a UAV overhead so I'm trying to flank the enemies based on their UAV location so when the map is zoomed all the way out it just looks like one big red blob on the screen, forcing me to reach over and hit the N key a couple of times (forcing me to take my hands off WASD or my thumb off of VOIP, meaning either no moving or no communication) all the while a firefight is going on. VERY annoying.

I leave my map zoomed on middle most of the time, the farthest zoom on the rare occasions I get in a jet, and the closest zoom when I'm about to assault or defend a flag. Having it change back sporadically is most annoying.

i'm no fan of their changes, but I made some myself to help deal with it.. keep your minimap zoom close to your hand, and maybe have your 2D map close-by as well - I find it easier to bring it up while driving around to see where to go next - keeping the transparency down on it too so that I don't crash :)

Wow, this has to be one of the lamest reasons for not wanting to play. I mean this is more serious than server crashes?

He didn't say he was giving up. I find it annoying too but you just get used to it

              Hmm, good point Older.

How do you make the larger, full screen map, transparent? I can only do this w. the mini-map.

                Re: Fix for the minimap?

Actually, i don't really get that many crashes, the minimap being forked is more annoying to me...

Ironic though, since it's such an easy thing to fix.

I posted this in the Game Feedback forum a while back, but it got deleted/not accepted by the TBF2 staff. Hence i try here instead. Glad to hear im not the only one annoyed by this, i understand this is not a priority fix, but it's so damn easy to fix, just give us the option for the minimap to stay fixed, not resize itself when it feels it should...
