Warning when changing drivers!

Hello, yesterday I changed my monitor from RGB to DVI. My resolution in BF2 was 1280x1024 @ 75Hz, the problem is that with DVI, the resolution at 1280x1024 cannot exceed 60Hz, so Battlefield 2 kept crashing after I installed the cable and the digital drivers. I was like, maybe using "system restore" to 4 hours ago could help. Once done, my anti-virus got corrupted and said something like "Some activeshield components may be missing or not installed properly" and it took me 2 hours to reinstall it because when trying to install the security suite, it stopped saying that it was already installed, but since it was corrupted, uninstalling didn't work. After those 2 hours it got repaired. But BF2 kept crashing, then I thought maybe it's because of the refresh rates unsupported by DVI in my Video Configuration in BF2 (75Hz), and I was right, I reinstalled BF2 twice, I switched back my cable to RGB, so 75Hz was supported, and then BF2 launched without a flaw. Then I defragmented, there was 200 excess fragments, and I don't know how many fragmented files.
All of this for just wanting to change from RGB to DVI.
So anyone performing this change, make sure before switching cables, that in Battlefield 2, you set the resolution to the lowest, 800x600 @ 60Hz so you are sure there will not be any conflicts, then you can change your resolution once DVI and its drivers are installed. (You will notice that some resolutions disappeared from the list (sign that some weren't supported).
So don't spend 6 hours for nothing.

eh? I switched from VGA to DVI when I got my LCD monitor, and *shrug* set it after launching BF2 to 1280x1024 60 hertz because there is no reason to have it harder, there must of been something different with teh card you had or something like that....actually I think it still supported 75 hertz on my monitor for some reason....anyway, that sucks, having to switch the cabels back, and reset the display before setting it up....

Ya I think it's related to the drivers, because when I just plugged in the DVI cable after Battlefield 2 worked again on RGB, it worked at 75Hz, on the Plug and Play driver, but then I installed the specific digital driver for my monitor and it restricted it to 60Hz on 1280x1024. And of course Battlefield 2 was set on 75Hz so it kept crashing, and of course I don't want EA technical support, they always say the same thing.
But remember, the only thing to do when switching is lower Battlefield 2 resolution to the lowest, the drivers will lower the desktop resolution automatically, but as you guys know, Battlefield 2 is really sensitive to any changes.

I had the same problem when I got my TFT and in my "divine" wisdom I reinstalled the game. There is also a simpler solution. Forgive me, I don't remember the file name, but there is a configuration file (txt I think) where you can change the freq value in Notepad. Maybe someone here knows the file name too :)

Of course the better suggestions come when you have done it the hard way.

For me the cable switch wouldn't have done it since my CRT had an ingame setting higher than the TFT could manage with either cable.

I know I searched for that file and couldn't find it, and then I did the worst thing: System Restore, corrupted my security suite, so my priority wasn't to look for that file anymore.

Got hold of the guy who mentioned it last time, the file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Profile no\video.con

Ok, its not a txt file, but still editable in Notepad and it has your video settings in it.
