Help Plz, Can Not Update BF2...

Whenever I try to run any update, either the 1.3 full update or any of the 1.2--->1.3 incremental update it gives me an error after I choose the language and says "Cannot find install folder for Battlefield 2(TM)"

Any ideas?

Well try this:

What is your bf2 install directory? Considering you got lucky with an easy to read error message (Dice did not make very friendly ones), check and see.

Default, it is C:/Program files/EA Games/Battlefield 2.

The 1st thing is to stop with the incremental patches. uninstall everything and follow the installation order in my sig.

From sig - INSTALLATION ORDER: BF2>SF>EF>AF>FULL1.3

You will need to install the full patch before EF also, the sig is wrong. You may have to install it before AF also, since EF takes you back to a 1.2x version.

What if I don't have SF,EF, or AF?

And my install directory is D:/program files/battlefield2

I still can't believe they didn't include and in games file updater.

Then install bf2 and run the full patch.

To try and correct your current problem, check in the registry to see where it thinks bf2 is installed. Look at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2". On the right side there is an entry "InstallDir", see where that points to.

If it is not pointing to the "D" drive as you stated, then try changing it and then run the patch. If that does not work, the uninstall the game, reboot, install bf2, reboot, patch, reboot.

The 1.4 beta testing is over with and according to game-monitor, there are only 4 servers running the beta and 2 of those are passworded.

So installing the 1.4beta is a waste of time.

AFAIK EF does not revert you; it only installs new maps. You do want to repatch at the end in case the patch updates the boosters (1.3 probably updates EF and 1.4 might update both).

Man, thats happened to me too!!! But my Default download folder is F:/Programs Files/Electronic arts/Battlefield 2
And i have reininstalled it a number of time tryin diff thing but keeps on sayin the same error

I have had this problem too and managed to find a solution. It seems that BattleField 2 doesn't add a string value for the Install Directory (InstallDir) to the registry when installing. Therefore, when the patch runs, it looks for this and finds nothing and hence gives the message;

"Can't find install folder for battlefield 2(TM)"


To correct this problem you need to add the string value (InstallDir) to your registry where the BattleField 2 entry is, which states the path of where you installed the game. To do this, following the steps below;


1. Install BattleField 2 to your hard disk (any location will do).

2. Download the patch (I used the patch 1.41 from http://www.ea.com/official/battlefie.../downloads.jsp)

3. Open your registry (For Windows XP, click on Start Button -> Run then type 'regedit' and click 'OK'

4. Go to the location; "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"

5. If your copy of BattleField 2 is like mine, you will see the following string values; (Default), Language and Locale.

6. Right Mouse Click on an open space under the existing string values -> New -> String Value. Type the word "InstallDir" and press enter.

7. Right Mouse Click on the new string value you created (InstallDir) and select 'Modify'. You now need to enter the Full Directory of where BattleField 2 is installed for Value Data: (i.e. "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\BattleField 2")


If you now run the Patch it should work without a problem.

Hi!

I have this exact same problem with this 1.41 patch, but problem is my dir in the registry is "DICE" not "Electronic Arts\EA GAMES...."

Will I have to change this? Can't make it work as per now!
