    MOVIE: WAKE ISLAND,"Dude! my HD..."

So, there I was working on the soundtrack for my ********* film contest entry.... and I lost one of my RAID drives. My hard drive image was a complete loss! all I have left is this test render.

It is with sadness that I was unable to complete this film, but the 1/4 that was partially completed came out so nice, even without the game sounds overlay, I decided to post it up.

I have a new drive and a new OS install, after this loss I am very motivated to produce an even better film for the upcoming ********* contest. Consider this a teaser

I'm gunna be blunt here. I know you put alota' effort into this, but you really, really need alot of work, especially if you're planning to enter this into ANY competition..

Though you obviously have a plot in the story itself, the footage follows absolutely nothing, and just seems like random fight seems clipped together. I felt like I was getting nowhere as I watched it through, I kept wondering where the heck it was headed.

Camera angles need work. You simply rotated the camera around the object or vehicle in question, and that is the most basic and borring of all shots. You need to bring the camera into a free perspective, and view more in one shot, instead of following one single object. You need to make your camera smoother with more of a realistic feel.

Music does not follow the action, and isn't well coordinated. Just music slapped on with random clips. To be honest, I couldn't bare watching it through..

I praise you for the work put into this, so I hope you take this all as positive critique.

I did say it was unfinished and 30min short of complete. Didnt I?

to Dlsso: I am sorry you didnt like it, everyone has different tastes.

to Sir Darth Master: attention to credits please... WWIII that old rusted plane got alot of peeps, was planing on clip change to CH aircraft liftoff, it looked nice but never fit right

Here are my last two finished films, feel free to bash away. I posted them as complete.

^ Somehow i knew you were going to bash D|sso on what he said but he pretty much sums up what i think about it too. I only saw a couple creative camera angles.. almost all of of them were dull shots just tracked onto the plane or heli. You did give an intro to what it is, a battle.. but the actual battle itself was not really "action packed".. Most of the clips were just bots moving from point a to point b. And for the soundtrack, in my opinion, did not fit the map or the action. Not sure what was wrong with it, i just didnt feel the connection.

Feel free to flame my structured criticism as well.. you will get alot of respect for that.

                Not a problem,
I understand you might be going through some tough times with loosing the project, but I am hoping these criticisms will help you out and score you a first place win in the contest (After all, you do say you are motivated in creating a better video).

Just try staying away from tracked shots if you can and include more cuts if there is an action scene. That should lessen the dullness of some clips. (You might also want to try testing some color correction filters and see if that livens things up).

It's always nice to have new future hopefuls step into the world of machinima, but you Maniac (if your name really does support your manner of feedback) have demonstrated a severe lack of experience and overall, damn indecency to D|sso.

I don't know how you were brought up, supposedly with showers of glory and counterfeit admiration from the majority of naive adolescents at bf2tracker, but here at TBF2, things are much more grown up and constructive criticism is not lacklustre.

I do hope you can turn it around, take 2 steps back, and I wish you support with your project.

                    Re-Read his post...

"grown up and constructive criticism" you say?

take your current project bro, saved "as is" then have it flushed with a drive crash,
                    then please apply his post...

can you see how it might chaff a bit?

I was wrong to Flame. I am sorry. I will edit my angry vomit. Forgive me.

that last part about the film and the drive, really lit my fuse.

again, there was no call for that kind of treatment and I am sorry.

Not bad Maniac, What a pisser you lost your drive would have liked to seen the final film. I did watch your other films allso all i can say is your useing the wrong soundtracks ! make your cuts faster and flow better from one to the other. My fav was the matrix not for the music but you had better shots and cuts in it, keep it up.
                          Cheers

                            Thx bro,

After getting a good nights sleep, I feel refreshed and more thoughtful about approching my next project.

All my films are one man(12-24hrs idea to final)film projects. As such I am "caught up in the moment" and tend to lose focus...

My skills with Vegas I'm afraid are not up to the task, but my heart is willing. As for my taste in music, well I'm an old fart, I really going to have to work on that

I am determined to make my next film, not perfect, but simply better than my last.... Taking into account many of the thoughts and comments of those who have mastered the skills that I am only learning.

so, slightly humbled and with noob confidance... I start my next project

                            working title: Seal Team 6
                            Assault at Hungsang-Ni

Like the title, another tip would be dont have 8 planes taking of and trying to follow it all. Keep it small " follow the seal team from a to b and try to capture it". Allso a good edit of 3 - 4 min film is better than 15 min of 20 things going on at once.
                              Look forward to seening it.
