did they decide not to put this in ? if you can do it, I have no idea how... Ive smashed every single button on my keyboard about 10 times with no success.

It used to be in PoE2 but we decided not to include this feature because players tended to just wait far away from the battle, squinting into the fog trying to pick off targets from far away, while we felt that tanks should be in the middle of the action.

So yes, we decided not to put this in the game.

in NAW mod tanks dont hide in fog so what are you talking about ?
its wery usefull especialy in forest maps , i know that i have been tanking from DC days most of the time tank zoom i good idea !
