ok, i think this may be a 'noobish' question: auto-fire related

ok, right a little thing that has been rubbing me up the wrong way for mnths now is when i am in posession of an automatic weapon, whether it be the ak101, p90, l85a1 etc etc, a couple of times a round AT LEAST, i will be in a position where i am at close quarters with the enemy and on some of those occasions i react first and have that advantage and begine to fire, but out of some of those occasions, my advantage is lost completely and i am invariably killed because the automatic rifle, seems to have, of its own volition, entered a one shot mode which requires you to press fire once per bullet, normally i can just click and hold the fire button and it will be on auto mode, take the p90, its not the most powerfull of weapons at all, but its fast rate of fire normally can make some difference, but when i am having to left click, left click, left click manually for each bullet, as you can imagine i am dead after like one or two attempts

i thought this could be some kind of intelligent weapon sensor that limits you to one bullet at a time if you are either, low on your clip, or nearly out altogether, but with that in mind, it has occurred at times when i am new into a game and have plenty of ammo and clips galore.

in other words this seems to happen at random.

just to say also, that because you expect the normal behaviour of the auto function, you click and hold expecting to unlease a round onto an enemy but it takes you seconds to realize that when you have done that all that has been fired is one bullet, you get stuck if you see what i mean, and then from after that the weapon seems to stick in that mode, which is no good with all the competition out there.

so what i want to ask, is does anyone know what i am rambling on about, have you experienced this? any info would be appreciated, as i am not sure when this started to happen, but i can say it didnt always happen!!

I can honestly say I never had that.. And I can say I was Single shotting a Prone Support guy yesterday and lived to see the day.. (i could look into his eyes) depends where you shoot with single shots if it's headshots he's down..:p

Single bullet bursts turn on when you have selected them same weapon twice. This can be switched back to automatic by selecting that same weapon again(look at your weapon display, you will see a "1" or an "A"). Furthermore, it should be noted that firing single bullets at medium to far lengths is much more efficient and accurate than automatic fire. Hope I answered your problem correctly, as for why you start off in siungle bullet mode, I have no idea, maybe just a misclick. Good luck.

well i never, that will be it, you learn something new everyday! i am convinced that will be it, thanks so much for the info, i will try it and see, and post back.

i agree single shot at distance is the only way to go, but when i am mostly AT, my p90 needs to perform at close quarters and when this happens, its respawn alley!!!

It occurs when you hit 3 to select your rifle, and accidentally hit it twice, it selects the it at full auto, and hitting 3 again, changes it to sinlge shot. If you hit 3 again, it will change it to full auto again.

I advise setting F key as secondary "3" key. One, its easy to access when you need single shots. Two, once that dumb mistake occurs of accidental single shot choice, you can switch back faster.

Damn I learned something today aswell, Had this happen to me more than a few times. I almost always play Anti-Tank and using the P-90 in single shot mode = death. :)

I have extra buttons on my mouse and have one of the thumb buttons set to select my main weapon. It also means I can switch quickly between auto and single shot, which I constantly do ... its certainly easier than having to press 3 all the time

I used to experience this too. I would nervously click my main weapon button to reassure myself I had it in possession. Sort of like a hockey goalie hitting his pipes with his stick, or a batter fidgiting with his bat.

I was inadvertently chaning the ROF (rate of fire). But I learned not to fiddle with it and now often change the ROF for different circumstances.

Also, if you have a mousewheel, clicking the weapon you already have changes the firing rate.

This happens to me also. I have learned to check frequently. like when I go into an alley I switch to auto. but sometimes the mouse wheel gets me in trouble when I roll it then decide not to change. of course it happens at the worst time possible.
