    Editing my localization files:Violation?

Hello everyone. I'm wondering whether it's "account safe" to edit my files manually, since I'm a beginner.

    Look here.

    KILLMESSAGE_WEAPON_saiga12 S12K

    This is in C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Localization\English\English.utxt

If I change the S to Saiga , will other players see the Saiga or just the S? I don't want to get my stats wiped for a stupid screw up like this. Thanks in advance.

shouldn't be a problem at all. just keep in mind that sometimes, a server might not let you in because it thinks you have modified your content too much if you did something incorrectly.

So, make sure you back whatever you change up!

Other people continue to use their localizations ..
Remember that file is only what you see .. localizations means the sentences in english that are translated into another language..

So take it easy, it shouldn't be a problem and nobody will notice your modifies lol

If the others on the server can see any changes in text size , color, ect... then its a violation...if only you see the text...than no...but i " suggest" you change nothing....

I thought PB would just not let you in the server. Not lock or ban you.

Really! It is important, considering how long it takes not to install BF with all the patches, EF, SF, and AF. And the download times for all that stuff too, it is just easier to backup the few files.

For some reason all the changes I made aren't showing. I did them in the way I described my first post: I just changed the killmessage. Nothing different. Maybe it's the fact that I have my safe copy in the same folder, so it uses that instead of the one I wanted.

Well, if that's the case, make sure you check if the file is titled correctly. The game uses "English.utxt". And no, it isn't a violation of anything because only you can see the changes, as far as I know.

Well I guess if you're experimenting with customising your Localization files there are two posts (one formerly stickied) that you could be looking at

Move your backups to a completely different directory. BF2 will load all .utxt in the /localization/english/ folder on startup, overwriting any changes you made.

And yes, they are PB safe, they will not get you kicked for modified content and they will not show others the changes you made, only you can see them.
